I called myself washing my hair and the plan was to put some rods in it. Well my hair said hayl no. I mean, it was like Sohpia. "I said HAYL NO!!!!"

I am not kidding, my hair was so.....think at the roots until I couldnt even section it to detangle it. I tried to get to the roots and I couldnt. I couldnt even get to the scalp!! Now mind you, I havent had a relaxer since October, but I have never had this problem before. I did my regular wash routine which consists of washing in the shower, detangling under the shower head with my Denman while standing under the water ( only this time I skipped about 4 inches from the roots) and squueze the water out and detangle it further out of the shower with the same brush.

Well, my hair bucked. It rebelled. It wouldnt do what I told it to do.

What did I do wrong? It wasnt tangled up before I started and I didnt tangle it up while I washed it. What should I have done????? I canned the rods and put in some plaits for a braidout. I still couldnt braid it to the root because it was just matted or something. It looks horrendous. I'll just detangle it once its dry but does anybody have any advise? TIA!
 
slather it in conditioner and try starting from the ends up to the roots in small sections...
 
you're gunna have to set some time aside and do it. u dont wnat it to get worse, you need to get the slippiest stuff you've got and the widest tooth comb you've got and go slow
 
Try saturating it with olive oil, let it sit for a bit then add tons of conditionner, hth
 
oh my god what are you doing? i'm nervous for you.
get from under the dryer and go put some condish on your hair and fix the matted mess before you do anything else!!!!

OR ANY OIL THAT WORKS FOR YOUR HAIR

(i'm only adding this cuz olive oil does not help me with slip for some reason it's the devil to my hair)
 
Same thing happened to my NG once (during a long stretch) .. it just seized up. I got detangled by using that Megatek avocado mist detangler spray. No amount of conditioner worked for me. I still don't understand why/how that happened.

Good luck getting it worked out.

Did you comb, brush or just use your fingers?

I hope you're already out from under the dryer, and saturating your hair with conditioner. :couchfire: I feel your pain. My daughter spent the summer away and she was already 8 weeks post when she left. When she came back, her hair was so matted that I combed out enough hair for her to form boobs for her teddy bear (she balled the hair up and stuck it under the doll's shirt). :look: I had to keep her hair sopping wet. Dry matted hair also = breakage. :ohwell:
 
So sorry this has happened to you. The same happened to me several weeks ago. It took hours and I had to have someone else detangle for me, I was so frustrated, I wanted to just cut! I ended up driving an hour away to purchase some Cowboy Magic, it was the only thing to do it for me. You may not have that option tonight, but I learned to keep some on hand. I applied mounds and mounds of conditioner and let it sit. It helped some, but when we put the Cowboy Magic on, it melted the knots away; amazingly. I hope someone has another remedy for right now, I know how you feel.
 
I started with my fingers, then used this big plastic afro comb that I had, then my regular shower comb and ended with my denman. I felt so panicky when that happened. I think I tried some of everything before I found what worked.

It's probably for the best. I yanked and pulled out of frustration because I wanted to get it over with. I ended up losing a lot of hair, and damaged my edges on one side. I had to nurse that area back with my boundless tresses to get it looking right again. My friends said they couldn't really tell, but I could. You're getting me traumatized all over again. :lachen: Let me take my behind to work.

This happened to me just last week from keeping my cornrows in for 6 weeks and using my growth aid. The back of my hair grows so fast and I've been using BT+MN I got a huge growth spurt and it matted a bit at the roots I sprayed Taaliah Waajid mist bodifier on my roots and it literally melted my tangled even on some spots that was dry. You can get it from CVS. I promise you this stuff works. I didn't loose ANY hair fromt he matting I was shocked. I went down to her shop and purchased a salon size bottle for $20.

Sounds like You did'nt get all the shed hair from out of the part You did'nt detangle(Your New Growth), Your going to have to take Your time, and like a lot of the others stated, slather it and detangle, slowly, it will be alrite, just calm down and take Your time, it will be just fine!
 
Leesh that sounds about right. Perhaps I should have brushed my hair out before I washed it and maybe I wouldn't have a 5 inch across natty dread in the middle/back of my head.

Aaw! Sweetie, It will be alrite, just take Your time and be patient, and the same as detangling, start from the part nearest the relaxed hair and work Your way down to the scalp area. If You have someone to help You ,it would make it much easier, and if so, just explain to them the proper procedure, and it will work out. I Wish You the Best, keep us posted!
 
The same thing happened to me before and scared the c-rap out of me. Mine was most likely a porosity issue because I had used Roux Porosity Control before the DC and something didn't take. I'm not messing with that stuff anymore just because of that. So maybe you can look into a porosity issue or something.

It felt like there was glue holding my hair together and I hope that never happens again. It wasn't just tangled in the roots, it was the entire strand and that's some scary stuff.
 
Woooow! Girl detangle (yo whole head!) before you wash, even if it's just with your fingers and then put it in sections. Everybody gave some great advice, please keep us posted.
 
This is bad. Im scared to even touch it. If I pick up one little section of hair, a big section comes up with it.

One thang is fa sho. I'll never stretch again. Neva. :nono:

Having someone else is what helped me the most. I know I could not have done it alone, she was even more patient than me, when we got down to the last quarter sized knot, I was still saying cut, and she refused. We started with a huge knot as well. It takes time, we took several breaks. Wishing you the best.
