I have a question....

I really admire you ladies that post over and over again about how you do not use heat on your hair. No blowdryer, no flat iron, curling iron or pressing comb.

Some of you are natural, some are relaxed/texlaxed and in between.

But what I would like to know is....HOW ARE YOU STYLING YOUR HAIR!?

I usually end up in a plain bun when I try to avoid heat. OR I end up going for a few extra days between washes (I wash weekly) to avoid heat. :yep:

I roll my hair and try to work with the results the next morning. But I'm a texlaxed 4a/b and braidouts so far....look WILD on my head.

I kinda look like a male Lion. Even with a scarf. (lol) I don't mind...I have a lot of thick hair.

So...it ends up in a bun. Any ideas, thoughts or suggestions for ladies like me? I want to go to a no heat routine at least the first six weeks after I texlax.

I am natural with 4a/b hair. I use 2 styles when I am avoiding heat.

1. Flat Twist my hair overnight than style in the morning.

2. I love curl formers. It smooths out my hair and makes it look like I got a press. I did not use any heat for this hair style. You can buy curlformers at Sally's. They gives perfect spiral curls.

I wash and deep condition my hair, add my leave ins then wrap it. Let it dry and that's it. When I comb it down I add a lil coconut oil. Wear it down or in a ponytail.

Natural. I wear every style imaginable excluding loc'd, weaved, wigged, and straight.

I use any thick regular moisturizing conditioner on damp hair that has been towel dried for 10 minutes in an old t-shirt, smoothing section by section from root to tip and saturating until my hair feels smooth. Little bit of oil. Then I apply a gel, pudding or butter on top and braid or twist. silk scarf, and the morning after I take it out. You could also tried cornrows overnight if they give you a better result, or rollers at the end of your braids/twists.

At night I pineapple or I rebraid with some conditioner or oil, that varies.

I'll have to post pics a bit later, but lately I've just been putting satin rollers in my hair. I part the hair in the middle and put five rollers in each side. When I wake up I just loosely shake out the hair and I have great waves which last all day. I don't need to use a comb either which is great.

I would try twist n curl it works for my mom.

Maybe try just rocking twistouts wet sets, cornrow the font leave back free, bantu knot out, or shingling

Puffs, puffs, and more puffs...They are my favorite style and what I wear if wearing my hair out:

But mostly I live in mini-twists and just style them instead. :look:

Do you have any pics of your hair after this routine? I think my hair would benefit from the product regimen.

I'm attempting to use no heat right now buy doing a bantu knot out. The curlformers pics that mmeadows1 and nonie posted are so nice. I wished I had a sally's near me.

When my hair was shorter I did a lot of twist outs, puffs, and bantu knot outs if I wanted to wear my hair out. Other than that I wore twists a lot. These days I feel like my hair is just way to big, so I'm mostly bunning.

How in the heck are you getting a straight style like that with NO heat??!?!?! I've been wanting to wear my hair straight more but I was afraid I would stop retaining my length due to styling with heat.
cia_garces I am relaxed pretty bone straight so I think that helps. To dry I add about 2 dime size amounts of a cream leave in then a few spritz of a liquid moisturizer and 2-4 drops of oil to seal. Put on a satin headband and smooth and detangle with my hands/fingers as it dries.

@ Nix08 If you wrap your hair after you do that, do you get a flat-ironed look? Also, does that last all day?

I'm natural and Ive been doing twist out puffs :D (my hair is thin in the crown area so unfort my twist outs alone don't look right so I always end up with some sort of 'puff'

Twists & twistouts. If I don't have time to wash my hair, I'll braid my hair at night, then unbraid it & do a pinned-up style like the one pictured below.

mmeadows1 - I can't believe how straight the curlformers got your hair. So you didn't even use a hooded dryer to set the curls; you got them this smooth just from airdrying?

Do you mind detailing the steps you took to achieve this style? Thank you!

I'd like to know too! As I read that I opened a new tab and went straight to the curlformers website.

I'm texlaxed and haven't used direct heat in over five years. Here are some of the styles I wear:

Satin Scarf braidouts, crosswrapping at night, and sometimes I'll gently brush all of my hair all the way up to the top of my head like a high ponytail and roll it in one giant flexirod and sleep in it. I can also sleep in multiple flexirods.

I do rollersets then pincurl or braidouts. Mostly braidouts.

Love the pics in this thread ladies! Very pretty hairdos!

*seriously thinking about getting me some curlformers* Great thread OP!!! Keep the styles coming ladies!!
