I was talking to a friend of mine about hair and she told me she relaxed-get this- EVERY WEEK!! Shes her hair is short so she doesnt want knots. Im surprised she still has hair to be honest.:nono:

Share your stories about the craziest things you've heard or seen.

yes I know!! I couldnt believe it either. her hair is always dyed and relaxed. i cant understand it.

I'm surprised she still has hair at this point. Does she do them herself? I can't imagine any reputable beautician agreeing to do that.

honestly, me and her had the same stylist and before i joined here, she would relax my hair every month when i would go to her. so if the stylist is doing it, maybe she thinks it ok.

This girl in jr high claimed she got a relaxer every two weeks because her hair grew so fast:rolleyes:

My friend's mom does this. But her hair must be highly porous cause the ends stay curly. She thinks perming fixes that when she probably just needs a chelsting poo.

LOLOL I was seriously wondering the other day if there are some misguided souls that get their hair relaxed 1-2x/week... I got my answer. :lachen::lachen:

Seriously though, how do you even have hair to relax in a week, my growth in a week's time is microscopic.

huh????????? Ive got tobe missing something, is her growth rate 4 inches a month?

There was a woman who wore the same weave for a year. when she finally had the money to get her hair done, it was so matted the stylist has to cut it out. Then it was immediately straightened/relaxed. It was actually a video on youtube. It was put up to show how a well installed weave could last.

I was disgusted.

That's not surprising. A lot of ppl with short cuts relax fairly often. I always hear ppl say that the stylist puts a little relaxer on the edges at every appt.

When I was little, if me or my sisters got a splinter in our finger our mother would get it out and then put it in our hair. She said it made your hair grow... lol

this girl kept her braids in over 8 months. her braids were dang near her nape, and her new growth was a fro coming out of the braids. she would try to slick her new growth down with brown gel too...she had to get all of that mess cut out.

I got to see it, that is sad. Fashion will never make me do something like this.

That is crazy! I always wondered how girls who were "that girl" in highschool never seemed to need a touchup......I guess this is what they were doing:perplexed

I used to relax my whole head at every application (every 4 weeks ) as my hair was constantly under processed due to low porosity .After about 5 times of doing this ,my hair started shedding ,broke off something terrible .I didn't have bald spots but my hair density was low and hair dry and limp.

My friend relaxes from root to tip EVERY time. She says her relaxer "wears off". She also straightens EVERY day. I found all of this out when she decided to give me and a fellow friend hair advice 1 day. Smh... I can visibly see 2-3 inches of splits without even touching her hair.

No she didn't...she has some nerve.

During my teens I did use direct heat on a daily basis. In the early '90s I "crimped" my hair until it broke off. I used it everyday. I used curling irons as flat irons, and curled my hair using "spritz" and hair spray to get those hard crispy curls that was popular at that time. Of course there was no heat protectant. I was shocked to even have APL hair.

This woman at my job shared some of her hair practices with me ,she said she applies relaxer on her ENDS first and on the roots last ,because apparently roots are more delicate and the hair fall out if you apply it there first. LOL

My white friend straightens her hair everyday at least twice, few years ago we went in holiday and she almost cried that I packed the straighteners when we were leaving even though her hair had been straightened twice that day.

She also pulls out her hair, which is actually a condition. At school she would spend hours just pulling out hair.

Another friend dyed her hair every week and sleeps with clip in extensions in.

Both of them actually have thick luscious, shiny, type one hair. It was great until we all turned about 16.
16 was the year of silly hair mistakes, which was a relaxer for me (didn't know how to look after it)

^^^Trichtillomania (or however you spell it). My mom had it with facial hair. By the time she was 40 she had no more live follicles left on her face! nO eyebrows, no eyelashing nothing. Its a sign of severe anxiety.

My filipina friend has APL hair. She said ironing her hair is much faster than flat ironing. So she lays her head across the ironing board and and runs her Silex across it every 2 days or so! I often used to worry about the spray starch that gets gunked on the bottom from clothes...

and yes her hair is dry and fried!
