Pissed!! I was unknowingly a guinea pig today when getting tree braids!

I was a guinea pig and I'm pissed. A LHCF member was gracious enough to recommend her braider, who led us both to believe that she had done tree braids in the past. Turns out that she never did tree braids before today and its a hot ghetto mess. I am having her take it down right now. Its that awful.

My husband drove me back to the shop in harlem from brooklyn, and he is pissed. I have photos that I will share later. I have a scarf covering this mess. She used almost 12 ounces of hair!!! I have a small head and use maybe 6 ounces for sew in. Braids could be more but 12 ounces?

I just wish she had told us that she never did tree braids before instead of wasting my day. I expect a refund too.

The clue was so many coworkers in the salon coming to look since they clearly never saw her do them...ever.

There must be a good tree braider in NYC????

My hair was suppose to look like this - but longer:

Not quite as long as this though

Edited to add photos of the HOT GHETTO MESS that was called Tree braids. She put it all up in a ponytail so that I would not get the full effect of how jacked up it was until I took it down.

She wants to "share" the money?!?!?!

Oh hecky naw. That's ridiculous and crazy. Especially since she lied to you. What are you gonna do? I don't even know what I would do...I'm mad for you!

That's horrible! I hope it all works out. Does anyone have a pic of what tree braids are supposed to look like?

oh heck to the no! she wasted her time (and yours) because SHE failed to tell you that she didn't know what the heck she was doing. do not leave there without all of your money. if she doesn't give you all of your money, please let everyone know about her so that no one makes the mistake of thinking that she is a qualified braider.

Aww, that is just wrong!:wallbash: She should have atleast told you that she couldn't do it. I'm sorry to hear that she wasted your time.

I think DH standing beside me while she took out the hot mess tree braids is what led to the refund. He stood over me the entire time to watch the take down, under 10 minutes but 3 1/2 hours to install.

We went outside where she said, in response to DH asking if she did them before, she had done them in a "circular pattern" but not the way I wanted them as in the 3 pages worth of photos I brought to the salon. I wish she would have just told me that when I showed her all the photos instead of attempting the style and wasting my day.

Basically, she never did them before and didn't want to admit it inside the shop. And I guess she did not want anyone else to see her give us a refund.

Oh well, waste of $32.48 for the hair (outre yaki batik) but at least I got my cash back.....to use toward an experienced tree braider.

I failed to mention that she left out the ends of the cornrows so that they hung at the rear of my neck (my braided hair is APL). Then she stitched the ends of the corn rows together a few times, took them down, repositioned them and stiched again, took them down and then put them up a third time in two ponytails at the back of my neck. She had NO IDEA how to close off the cornrow base or how to stitch them up. She told me intially that she would braid them across the bottom and then stitch them together but I guess the 2 failed attempts led her to just let my braided hair hang under the "tree braids" in two ponytails?

Dang I'm glad you got your money back.

That's jacked up how grown a$$ women will lie about what they can and can't do.:nono:

You did the right thing.

:nono:

...all I can do is shake my head. Im glad you got a full refund, should've been some interest added for misleading clients plus pain and suffering :spinning:.

hecccck naw! my mother would've thrown down if someone dared to do that to my head or hers! i'm glad you got your money back! she should pay you for wasting your time and lying!

Yeah RW I could definitely see WAY too much of your scalp in those pics. she did have you lookin a HAM.

IM sorry but if I wouldve saw you like that walking outside, I would've been thinking "WTH did she do to her hair? Cheap self, she should've just went to a stylist and had it professionally done, now she look like a dag on fool." but it was actually the "professional" that jacked you up in the first place. dont make no sense :nono:

Thank you!!! I literally snuck into my building because I did not want the doorman or anyone I know to see me. I put on my scarf to drive back to the salon...just for the car ride. I was looking a hot mess. I have never felt so violated after having a salon service performed:nono:

DH was MAD!!! He drove like a mad man. I nearly threw up with his speeding & weaving in and out of traffic. He stood watch while she took that mess out of my head. The pics show alot of it but in person it's WORSE if you can even believe it!

what the :perplexed i can't believe she really acted like she knew what she was doing. get a mannequin or something. i woulda been steaming, esp since all braids pull and tug at your scalp a little and so hurt a little. like you just sat through hours of having your scalp pulled at for nothing. at least you got your money back, but can't get your time and nerves back.

but hey, since we're talking about it, are you saying that regularly these tree braids would just take 3 1/2 hours to do for the whole head?

Glad you got your money back. I'd feel bad about how I :lachen: at this post otherwise. It's like a scene out a movie.

Those were bad. There's not a positive spin in the world to put on that. :nono: The link you posted to Kristen's work is the best example of tree braids. But she's just an excellent braider.

Yep, 3 - 4 hours to install based on the research I have done. Ten minutes to take down with an angry Black Man standing over the braider. :lachen:

She did not braid tight though, I will give her credit for that.

She was pretty good with not pulling too tight although she did use a rattail comb a few times which fell on the nasty floor. I handed her my wide tooth comb from my purse.

I'm glad you're :lachen: too because I'm still snickering at your earlier post and this just adds to it. Bet she's never done a takedown so fast in her life!!!
