Why does it have to be a tourmaline one?
It may or may not make a difference, but tourmaline irons have a much smoother surface in my opinion (but that might just be in my head). They also generate negative ions that preserve moisture. But if you're using it on wet hair, I guess it shouldn't make a difference. I'm sure ceramic or any other PTFC-heated iron would be fine. I say PTFC because coil heated irons get hot spots.

It seems like this method would be a good idea for naturals (as evidenced by Nonie and Irresistable), and less of a good idea for relaxed heads. Maybe ladies with the healthiest relaxed hair could try it, but I'm too afraid to ever think of it.

But I flat iron only the very front part of my hair like once every month anyway, so I guess these tutorials aren't for relaxed rollersetters like me anyway
