Irony: When you look better with short hair.

I've been on the board for a year and have basically gotten my regimens down and now have very healthy hair that grows fast, thanks to you all!

Since I came out of my last sew-in in July, I've seen my hair grow from jaw length to nape length. My stylist cut into a reverse bob, which is okay, but not completely stunning.

To spice it up some, I had my dark-brown (1B/2) hair lightened three shades at the Aveda Institute. I still thought it was too dark, so I bought a Textures & Tones kit in Light Golden Brown and re-did it myself, and the results are amazing...but my style didn't pop.

So, on Halloween, I returned to the Aveda Institute and got a really nice "signature" haircut--somewhat "scene" mixed with anime--for only $15!

And the compliments are nonstop--mostly from men (one fellow I knew yelled across Neiman Marcus his compliment last week)--and so many of both sexes and all races swear that short hair on me is a keeper because I'm 41, six feet tall, have an oval angular face with wide eyes and an athletic build; whereas, longer hair was overwhelming on me, so I'm told.

And the most ironic thing is that I don't miss my hair because I know I can grow it back quickly...but I LOVE my new cut!

Have any of you felt the same way? And, do you feel--like I now do--that your action defeated the board's purpose of growing long, healthy, and beautiful hair?

I'll post some pics after I wash and style later today. It will REALLY pop when I do my own retouch next week!

I know I look better with shorter hair. I think it flatters my face more but since I have never had long hair, I am growing it out. Once I hit my goal, I will experiment more to make it flatter my face better. If I decide to cut it then, I won't care. Healthy hair, which this board teaches you how to obtain, always always looks better than unhealthy hair regardless of length. In the end, do what makes you happy. I love hot short cuts with amazing color work. I would love to see pics of what you did.

Congrats on finding a super sexy look for you! While it is ironic, you are not rockin short jacked up hair, but super healthy beautiful hair. We all may be into super long hair, but it's healthy hair first!

Btw I am jealous of your color! I used to have tons of natural highlights, but now my hair just keeps getting darker & darker!

I know I look better with shorter hair. I think it flatters my face more but since I have never had long hair, I am growing it out. Once I hit my goal, I will experiment more to make it flatter my face better.

I had BSL length via locs a couple years ago. I actually went from 2 inches to long hair in about 3.5, but I don't think that counts because there was little upkeep besides washing and tightening my NG, and I actually lost about 6 inches when I took them out. So, it's not impossible to grow long hair...even though I'm still curious about how I would look.

Maybe when I get bored with this look or get tired of cutting every six weeks? LOL!

Men just love, bobbed hair styles. I think it kind of makes a woman look like a dominatrix which they find sexy. The other day I had to let my braidout dry and so, I just put on my short bobbed wig and let me tell you, it was a pretty 'hot' day. And I was out in the subway station with my braidout which looks wild and wavy and I had a stalker who was very curious about my hair and so, short hair to medium hair also rules!!!!!!!

Right? The clerk in my neighborhood Sally's commented on my hair's health yesterday and how I was able to keep it healthy as I'm double processed.

I told her that I also used a Sebastian Clear Cellophane to protect my hair and give it thickness and protein.

My hair also got darker! I had reddish-brown hair with blonde highlights until I started locking in 2000. Then it got dark. I couldn't accept the fact that I had to buy 1B hair for my sew-ins instead of 4/30!

The same thing happened to my Mom. She had ash-blonde hair until she turned 30, then it became jet black and she started her longtime love affair with frosting and bleach jobs! LOL!

I think that short hair is sexy,but it could be that you felt better about your hair since fixing the color and cut and you were more confident and that is what drew in more attention.

Some people do look better with short hair.I know that I look my best with a medium length cut and my face is angular as well but I 'm growing it long anyways.

OK? How bout you just reminded me of Lady Heather's (or was it Grissom's?) quote on this week's CSI: Heterosexual men want to be dominated by a female; whereas, heterosexual women want to be dominated by a man! LMAOOO!

Why is that? My friend, as soon as he got off the plane the day of my cut, immediately ran his hands through my hair and started raving in French how much he loved it! LOL!

I know that I look better with short hair too but I picture myself as being an older woman with long hair (I don't know why).

I have always worn a lot of different styles whn I was relaxed and also now that I'm natural.

So what I do is I mostly always wear my hair in nice updos that give me the same look as shorter hair.

Wow! Mabye we're related-ha ha! Mine was dark brown(brown not black) mixed with reddish brown & gold. I wonder why our hair changed colors? So Sebastian Clear Cellophane...hmmm...if I ever get my hair healthy enough, & get up the nerve to double process I will try this! Thanks!

Gym- I think that's the key right there in the bolded! Today my stylist gave me bangs ( a scoop bang) and shaped the front to flatter my face. So my hair is longer in the back than the front. She trimmed my back into a U shape. I'm lovin my hair right now and can't wait to go out tonight!

ITA... OP! You don't need to add pics to convince me! EVERYTIME, I wear my hair short I get a ton of compliments and from men. When I wear the long weaves or my hair longer, no one really says anything, and I am almost over looked. I remember I was wearing a cute half wig with pretty lush curls and it looks so natural, nobody took notice. Then one day I took it off, fixed my hair into the short cut it was. I went to the store and men were telling me how gorgeous I was. Also some yt students at my school also told me how much better looking I was with short hair. Dh prefers it too. I personally love short hair. I am growing it out to a bob. I try to stick to what flatters me. I also agree with the poster who said it may have something to do with how you feel and what you exude.

I like my hair pulled back in a bun, it looks good on my face especially since I lost 30 lbs. I'm wondering if this is enough barometer to see what short hair looks like on you. I've always had between sl-apl-and bsl hair

I look better with shorter hair. I never cut my hair but I got a weave cut into a chic style and the men went crazy! I also loved how easy it was to take care of. But in the end I couldn't cut my real hair, lol.

I cut my bangs recently too. I did the blunt china bob bang and I loved it. I find that the longer my hair gets, the better I look in curls. THe whole pin straight flat iron look doesn't do me any justice as my hair is gaining length. I look better with curls and waves. I will probably do more elaborate updos and such with I hit BSL.

Never be afraid , all you have to do is try on wigs, I use to tell my clients this all the time when they would wonder how they would look in a certain length, color, or texture. It's a good way to experiment without the commitment!!!

I totally hear you. I think about doing a slightly below shoulder length blunt cut all around with color that Rita Hazan herself would approve of.

Yeah, and when you wear short hair, you also become more daring with eye makeup and earrings! I gotta be more careful with my skin, too, (stop picking at it out of boredom) to bring the whole look home!
