Jealous hair dressers.

Are you afraid that a hair dresser might mess up your hair because of jealousy? I dont know why? But Im scared I might go to a stylist for a relaxer and she might pour something in the relaxer cream to make my hair fall out Or she or the shampoo girl might not wash out the relaxer cream properly and my hair will break off. oooooooooorrrrrrrrr she might trim from hair badly just to mess up my hair. I dont trust people with my hair because they might say your hair looks nice and secretly hate you because of it

lol! I would not put it past someone to do that. And I do have a fear that something like that would happen to me.
Better safe than sorry I say! I only let my sister touch my hair.

yes and yes. that's why I only go to my friend that is a hairdresser when I want someone else to do it. Otherwise, with relaxers, wash and style and trims, I'm DIY.

Mine has hair past BSL and it's gorgeous. I trust her completely anyway. She's about healthy hair for her clients first.

I use to think that was the Absolutely the Most Ridiculous Thing I had ever Heard Of....Even though several of my friends kept telling me that about My Stylist.

Even though she just to always look at me "Crazy" Every Week when I came in or She would Always ask me for something I was wearing etc....."girl you should let me have those earrings, shoes," etc... Naturally you think a person is JK Right?????

I began to believe it after two Very Eye Opening things happened:

1) One I asked for a particular cut and she "pretended" not to know what I was talking about/describing and then the very next week, she had hers weave up into that exact same style

2) after 90% of my Hair Fell out late last year due to overprocessing/improper nueturalization.

No because the salon I go to the women there have long hair.

My only fear is that they don't do my hair right because I only go once a year. I can picture the stylist saying yeah I'll fix her butt right now for being cheap (insert evil laugh here)

Wow, I didn't know it was really that bad. I've only dealt with three stylists in my life and they were all wonderful. Now I was never one to get my hair done every week but on the occasion when I did go, I never had any problems.

Thinking back, I may not have noticed anything because I never really took care of my hair anyhow. I only went to stylists once or twice a year for a relaxer or special occasion.

I'm very clear and upfront with my stylist. She is all about great haircare and her clients hair promotes her business well.

I do my hair 99% of the time and I let my mom or my sis apply and wash out the relaxer cream. But it getting to the point where I not to far from getting a trim. So Im looking for a good stylist.

Oh ok. I rather a stylist cut my hair than apply a relaxer. I know that might seem weird but I had sooo many setbacks from them not neutraliazing/not rinsing it out properly

Maybe you can try trimming it yourself.

Fortunately, my stylist is all about long hair and hair growth (I hope it stays like that too!)

Shoot....she (and the whole daggone shop for that matter) was trying to talk me out of cutting my chin length hair into my Rhianna-esqe cut.

My Girl told me that - after a Press and curl for a client - the stylist went to the sink - wet a hair Brush... and Brushed the back of the woman's style......Destroying it just before she left - without her knowledge.

Another Cut hair many inches shorter - calling the client a B.......

My Sister's Niece ( don't ask - not related to me) routinely asks her braid clients - "how are you going to wear your hair....? erplexed " in order to cheat on Braiding the back portion of the hair properly.....

I have personally heard braiders call the clients names, and complain if they don't get tips... and cut hair out.... on purpose.

These people are AWFUL.

To answer: I guess I don't worry about it anymore because my stylist hair is almost WL,so no jealousy there...Honestly,and I hope I don't come off wrong,but I always selected stylists based on their own hair length/health...if it wasn't as healthy/longer than mine...they did NOT touch my hair

I was a DIYer for a long time until I found a good male stylist. He was into healthy hair and my hair was thriving. Unfortunately I had to let him go. He was unreliable and stood me up a few times; one being my wedding day.

I can do everything myself except for trimming my hair. I have to go the the salon for that. I only let these 2 white girls do that for me. They always just cut what I ask and never too much.

But all because your stylist has long hair doesnt mean she wont hate or try to destroy your hair. Some women just want to be the only ones with nice long hair, so you have to look out for them too

I agree with some of the other posters. Find a good male stylist. The guy I have is great! Maybe even try yelp in regards to seeing if anyone has posted about some good male stylists. When I lived in Harlem, there were a few up there--sorry, don't remember the names of the salons. One was on 145th and Amsterdam.

Also, I would have a white or Asian person trim my hair (sorry, I know how that sounds ). But a lot of them really specialize in different hair cutting methods. My friend used to go to Chinatown in NYC to have an Asian lady cut her hair. I had an Asian lady cut my hair once, and she did a great job. But initially, she started spraying my pressed hair with water and I had to explain to her the situation. Other than that, I was very happy.

I don't know that I've ever had a jealous hairstylist, because before I went natural I never had much to be jealous of. But after years of being fried, dyed and laid to the side, I've never had ONE, out of the dozen or so hairstylists I've been to, give me good advice for maintaining healthy hair, even after I would specifically ask them for help. I don't know if it was lack of knowledge or meanness, but that's the truth.

I know there are good stylist out there, my mom has had a couple who were stellar, but we lived in different states and I never tried them. They hooked her up though.
