1 Year Natural What I've Learned So Far

Today is my 1 year natural anniversary. This has been an amazing journey so far, and at times interesting. I think some of the most important things for me has been water, working in sections, always using a leave in and runny gels. Things that don't work for me are heavy gels and creams. They seem to just sit on my hair. I cowash mostly once a week and use a sulfate free shampoo at least once a month. I deep condition at least twice a month. I style once a week and I wet and shake every day.

Congrats Stephanie!!!! And thanks for sharing about what had helped you gain so much progress.

I am also a little over a year too from having shaved it all off completely.

What I have learnt is that heavy protein gels cause me single stranded knots even if they give me a nice curl pattern.

Protein treatments are key I do them weekly, every two weeks depends on my hair.

Protective styles work and mixing it up with wigs every now and then helps while hair is growing out of the middle range stage. No extension braids and no colour.

Washing on a weekly basis to remove gunk from my scalp and stimulate my scalp. Working in sections. I am down to seven sections used to be 10 from four months ago.

Every other day moisturize with a slight spritz of warm water, curl prep sweet buttah and castor oil grease to preen those oils down my shaft and concentrate my moisturiser on my shaft and ends.

Finger detangling.

Daily exercise -20 minutes a day and drinking more water.

Best,
Almond Eyes

Thanks @xu93texas. I would have never thought I'd be able to wash let alone style my own hair. I was very dependent on hairdressers in the pass.

Thanks @sweetnikki_6 so glad I decided to go natural. My hair is nothing like I imagined it would be. Mainstream media would have you thinking relaxer straight is the only option. It's good to see that changing but there still a long way to go. I personally get so excited to see all different types of hairstyles on people of color in the media.
