2 Things I Can Not Figure Out

I have read a million and one threads but here are 2 things I still can not figure out:

Why do some consider Lustrasilk and Lekair deep conditioners? It doesn't say it is a deep conditioner nor does it say to leave on for 15 minutes.
Lekair says leave on 2 minutes
Lustrasilk says leave on 3-5 minutes
Wouldn't that be a regular conditioner?
The advertising slogan/catch phrases say deep conditioning but it does not say it is a deep conditioner.

When some describe co-washing, I keep reading...put conditioner on hair, let sit a while, and then rinse. What is the difference between that and conditioning your hair?
When I first read about co-washing on a different site, it said you use the conditioner as if it were a shampoo...scrubbing/massaging scalp with it as you would a shampoo.

Every other question that I ever had was answered by doing a search these last 1.5 years while lurking but these 2, I have never been able to answer.

Thanks in advance

Most people do use rinse out conditioners as DCs, but you're right they are not intended for that purpose. I've been on my hhj for almost two years and I just learned (from this site) that not all conditioners are DCs and even the application of heat does not change that. Most are just detanglers that help offset the effects of the shampoo. As a result, I had to find a new "real" dc.

I think that cowashing is just as you described it--massaging it in and then rinsing. That's how I do mine anyway.

cowashing is using a conditioner as your shampoo instead of shampoo.

Normally cowashing or the conditioner used is one that is like Suave or VO5 or products similar.

As for deep conditioning. You may see different things, but use or do deep conditioning they way you are use to. Don't let it stress you.

I have deep conditioners that I use only for deep conditioning and I have conditioners that are used for leave in and maybe for cowashing.

Hope that helps.

Thats an interesting question...I've always regarded LeKair Cholesterol as a DC and always used it as such. LeKair Shea Butter Cholesterol + at least 15 mins of heat works wonders...makes my hair feel like butta:lick::grin:

The bolded is called "DC-ing on dry hair". Like said above, actual co-washing is massaging your scalp with conditioner as you would with shampoo.

As for LustraSilk & Lekair. Good question. I use LustraSilk as a detangling deep conditioner. The best answer I can give is that it has deep conditioning properties for my hair. The longer I leave it on, the more it will absorb into my hair. It also coats my strands very nicely and loosens the coils momentarily for easier detangling. The fact that it contains cholesterol, shea (the shea & mango one), and oils (like olive oil) makes it deep conditioning for my hair.

HTH!

As you can probably tell, I'm a little bit of a perfectionist. I'm letting it go.
I will say I love co-washing and do it exclusively but I use the conditioner as if it were a shampoo. The other way seems the same as conditioning your hair to me and may be why so many do not like co-washing and think it does not get their hair clean.

That's so funny, I didn't like co-washing but I do like applying the conditioner to my dry hair letting it sit and then washing it out.

I do it strictly to condition, I use shampoo to clean my hair.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but after I DC and rinse, do I have to put another conditioner like Aussie and then rinse and then spray my liquid leave in? This has always confused me.

No you don't have to. I don't see a need to, it seems like a waste of product.

I normally apply the cholestorol to my dry hair. I use the conditioner as a shampoo and massage my scalp. I put a little more in and rinse it out after my shower.

co washing is rubbing it in your hair and scalp regular conditioner is only for the hair and shouldnt really contact scalp

I use LeKair Cholesterol Plus as a deep conditioner with a heating cap for an hour and it works well. I cowash with HE, VO5 or Suave. I've alway considered LeKair as a cheapie deep conditioner that works well in my hair.

Scroll down to Post #3 (Bolded), this may help!

Thanks
I remember reading this thread which confirmed in my mind that they are not deep conditioners but again I am letting this go.
I guess the thing for me is that I use Lekair for co-washing and Lustrasilk as a leave in so it's weird to think that to some I am using 3 deep conditioners on wash days and and on the week I do my protein treatment, 4 deep conditioners.
Wow

Aw... Lustrasilk, the dark horse of hair.:ohwell:

Actually, you can use it any way you want. I even use it s a leave-in to give my hair weight. It makes an excellent base for a deep conditioner once you vamp it up with other products. I don't know, it's just one of those weird multi-purpose products.

What is an example of a real DC? I had this question as well and it seems that when I look at threads about what people are using to DC and then look at the actual product it says to leave on for 3 or 5 minutes.
