Hey type 4 ladies,
I have a few questions
I'm planning to touch up after 12 weeks, my new growth is so nice and pretty now, and my hair looks dead straight when it's blown out, it is quite possible that I can weave my hair and not have to touch up until April like I planned to.

The problem however is; when I get the weave put in, the front is normally out.. how do I avoid having my weave looking oily and yucky because of MTG and other mixes?

How often do you ladies wash your weaves? How do you manage applying MTG and other mixes to your scalp while wearing a weave?

What kind of flat iron do you use to get your salon look with a grown out front?

Anxious to hear responses.

*yes I am very confused *

When I wore weaves, I could never use a bunch oils and stuff without having to deal with build up. It seems that weave hair does not even absorb oils the same as my own hair anyway so it was even more oily.

I shampooed my weaves as often as I shampoo my own hair.

Once last Fall, I was at 9 weeks post and got a weave where the front was left out. I did not touch up and kept the weave in for about 4 weeks. During that time, I just flat ironed my own hair in the front.

Not that I am against weaves or anything, but, one of the reason I stopped was because I was always manipulating the hair that was left out so that it will blend and it started to become thinner than the rest of my hair.

That was my last weave and I am still trying to recover from that.

Just be really careful with the part that is left out.

That happend to me as well because I always parted my hair down the middle, so the middle got really thin from flat ironing and I too am trying to recover.

There are so many things to consider when trying to get a nice look without sacrificing your hair's health.

Most likely this time I will get my hair going all back.

Now that I am so used to washing at least once a week and the barrage of chemicals, I dont just want to starve the hair by not adding stuff. And you are right, the weave doesnt absorb the oils well.

That was the hardest part for me. My 1st weave ever last year left a bad taste in my mouth because the lady did not make it easy for me to get in there to apply oils and moisturizers.

I finally found a person that knew what she was doing and I could not believe how easy it was for me to get in there and apply my products.

I think the mistake many people make is getting a person that does not know what they are doing to weave their hair, like I did.

I know! Actually, most times these days I have trouble balancing that.

I look busted on a regular basis.
My motivation to look cute is driven by events and activities.
I go to work, to the gym and perhaps to the movies on the weekends, and besides that, that's it. I hate looking frumpy. And my only good look comes with the half wigs, phony's of the weaves.
The combs in the phonys and the wigs are hurting my scalp a lot from the constant use.

My hair dresser sews my rows in so that I can get in between them easily, it's not a mass of drama.
