Great tutorial!!! I stopped wearing my phonies because I could not get my hair to lay right being 7 weeks post but I'll give this a try next wash day.
Thanks alot

That was wonderful of you to put this together. I used to do something similar but I was relaxed at the time, I havent tried this as a natural. When I did it, instead of raking, I would actually comb my hair so it would dry completely straight, put it in a ponytail, not too tight as I didnt want a major ponytail impression. Then I would comb my hair coming out of the ponytail straight and secure the end of it with a smaller scrunchie. After it was dry I would then wrap it with a lil oil and some stretch and put a scarf around it. My body heat would straighten it out all the way. I wanted my hair straight tho. I think the roller is a great idea. In fact, you could probably use more than one if you wanted to or even two ponytails, one on each side. Thanks for posting this!! :)

Thanks a million. One question though, how do you moisturize once the hair is completed dried?

I know from past experiences when I touched my air dried hair I was asking for trouble.

I moisturize with a spray bottle. I made my own moisturizing concoction. My hair doesn't break to the touch after airdrying. It actually feels soft and retains a LOT ot moisture.

Mizani...

thanks for the tutorial. That was very nice of you--because I'm sure that took quite a bit of time to complete!! :)

now 2 questions...

What is in your moisturizing concoction? Also--how do you wear your hair after air drying it like that?! I'm almost tired of bunnin it..:ohwell:

also--a bonus question--- (I'm still learning what's what..) is Biosilk considered a serum? I'm trying my best not to stop by the BSS store on my way home. I'm already goin to hit up Walmart for some of those satin rollers...

Great Job! This is how I air dry my hair as well. I just slick it back into a scrunchie and tie on my scarf. I take it down the next day and it is straight and ready to put in a bun. :)

Great tutorial!

If I had known stuff like this when my hair was relaxed it wouldn't have been so fried.

I'm sure your post will help lots of people.

Apples,

Hey There!! It actually didn't take time at all. I just did what I normally did but snapped pictures here and there.

Anyways my moisturizing spray concoction consists of Nexxus Humectress, Keracare humecto, Keracare essential oils, and water in a spray bottle. It is easier to apply this way and it cuts down on manipulation. It makes me feel like I am apllying conditioner everyday which is a good thing for my hair.

After I get finished airdrying I usually put my hair in a ponytail, two Indian braids, or clipped up with a fancy clip. I am tired of the ponytail too, but I have noticed the most growth/retainment through this method. Once I reach my desired length (hopefully in a year 1/2) I will go back to wearing my hair down, but I will try to airdry it in a wrap to get it straight and flat iron the top layer of my hair.

Anyways, This Biosilk is considered a serum (pic below)

But if I remember correctly, one of the first ingredients is SD40 alcohol. I couldn't figure out why my hair was drying out so quickly and girl that was the reason. It is one of THE most drying alcohols out there or hair ingredients out there for that fact.

So I wouldn't recommend it, but if it works good for you then go for it! I hope I answered all of your questions.

I wanted to add that using a FRIZZ SERUM like John Frieda or Fantasia helps as well. It makes the hair smoother and gives it a nice shine.

Yep! I agree, I personally think just about any silcone based serum would work!

Thanks Mizani! I know this will help me. I always use a scarf to tie down my hair at night or to slick down my edges when styling. I never thought to use it when air drying. :perplexed I would let it dry first then tie it down. Will have to wait until the weekend to try this when I poo again :)

just bumping so that everyone else can learn how to do it (if they don't already know) Great tutorial!

Aw man!!!! I co-wash almost everyday and I ALWAYS put my pony tail kinda tight w a rubber bandy scrunci, not the satin ones!!!

Are these serums good for flat ironing or do you guys recommend something else?

This is a great tutorial. Thanks for doing this. I'm definitely going to give it a try as I was having a hard time figuring out how to air dry my hair and still be able to leave the house looking like a human being. LOL! As you can see I'm a newbie. :)
