Does anyone else have to put product on their hair in order to have a good flatiron? When I flat iron my hair at home and I just use a little serum, my hair is still puffy. I have to use a a moisturizer/heat protectant on every section that I flat iron in order for it to come out well. Does anyone else have to do this or is it something I am doing wrong?

*I ask this because my beautician does not have to use product to get my hair to flat iron silky straight.*

ur beautician is probably using higher heat. I use a moisturizer/leave in like humectress to prevent breakage and it comes out better. I use fantasia as well.

How much do you normally use of each. I have to use a dab on each section that I pick up to flat iron

Ill give u the breakdown:grin:
The way I section my hair for each step is I part in 4 sections (halfway down and then ear to ear) and then take each of those 4 sections and part them into two. After I wash and condition my hair I detangle with Just for me detangling spray. I then add a little more than a quarter sized amount of a water based leave in (humectress) to each section (8). I then dry loose under the dryer until about 90 percent dry. Then I apply the same amount of leave in, a dime sized amount of fantasia to each section and lightly blow dry. My hair is pretty much moisturized by this point. If not, I add a little more nexxus. I then add a dime sized amount of fantasia to each section (focusing on ends) and flat iron. To keep my hair silky, I moisturize with an oil based moisturizer as water based ones usually cause reversion. HTH

Thank you! So maybe since my hair is desperately dry all the time, I should be adding to it before I flat iron. Makes sense.

I've learned with flat-ironing its all in technique....Some beauticians can get my hair bone straight and others looks kinda puffy and doesn't last as long...

Bump

I mimicked what a stylist did for me with great results.

After shampooing and conditioning she wrapped my hair very smooth using keracare foam, and sat me under the dryer

I detangled and combed my hair in the shower, put lottabody creme (great shine) and let my hair dry in a ponytail uses Sylvers scarf method under my hooded (Really ghetto by the way lol, i sat my hooded dryer on an ironing board raised to the level of my head, put a towel over it so it would work faster, and sat typing on the computer -:nono:)

Next she unwrapped my hair, used some type of creme pressing or or something on each section, and flatironed

I used ampro pressing oil, and flatironed each section

Adding a heatprotectant spray also helps with shine

Having a deepconditoner that really works also maximises results--i was using ors, but once i switched to silicon mix, my hair was really soft after the whole process

I tried everything else and my hair was really poofy or dry.

The main ingredient i think is drying.
Drying smooth makes the result look better,
Also, drying with some type of heat makes the results look better

For thicker, dryer, or coarser type hair, a creme/thicker oil instead of a heat spray and oilsheen

Absolutely! A little ORS olive oil lotion goes a long way :)! It gives me that salon "swang" (see pic below).

ORS is the stuff, baby!

I use John Frieda's heat protectant hair serum. I use a dime sized amount and my hair feels so silky. I think the fact that I flat- iron my hair in small sections helps my hair to become silky.
