My body always reacts strongly to drugs, and right now it's angry at me for my lithium intake. My hair sheds like crazy. I'm taking my vitamins daily, but I'm open to any suggestions that you may have. Normal hair tips like "leave it alone" don't always work because if I don't brush the fallen hairs out daily, I'll have enough to make a small kitten after a few days. My hair also dreads very easily because of the mass shedding.

Thanks!

Well it could be stress from what you're taking meds for but then again it might be the meds. If this is for a long period of time your body will eventually adjust. But as a safety net you should talk to your doctor if you are shedding badly. That is not a good sign. Maybe its a little too much.

Well, I've been on lithium for about a year so I'm not adjusting. I talked to my doctor this morning and he wants to keep me on it for a while.

Hmmmm...lithium eh?? I'm not on that...yet....but i will be subscribing just in case my pdoc decides to put me on it.

What kind of vitamins are you taking??

I'm taking Maxi-hair which I love. It makes my skin so nice and keeps the shedding down. I also take iron and fish oil.

He knows that I take vitamins since he needs the rundown for my blood-work. But does anyone else here deal with hairmares because of meds?

I think I'm going through the same thing Enyo :nono:

I flat ironed my hair 2 times in the past month and it looked nice and healthy as usual. Then the other day I upped my dosage of Lamictal XL to what the MD wanted me to start back in January. I'm going through some of the usual side effects but this morning I decided to give myself a scalp massage and gently finger comb and gently come out my hair while dry- I do it a few times a year bc I know what you mean about matting. I thought that I did a good job as usual getting rid of all the tangled hair, put some sweet almond butter on it, slapped a wig on and went about my day. I stepped into the shower this evening for the usual wash and condish and  my hair was sooooo soft and mushy. I have never in my life ever over moisturized my hair and I didn't do anything different but do you know I jumped my behind right back in the shower and did an Aphogee 2 min reconstructor and it does feel better but I wonder how much damage I have caused.

Also I just added a whole slew of new supplements to my diet trying to speed up my growth- Biotin, B complex, Hair Skin and Nails antioxidant pills, milk thistle, and I'm 1 month in on the Zi Xiu Tang Detox.

I don't know which one it is but I haven't been eating much in the last month and I just added all this other stuff last week and started the higher dose of Lamictal XL. I know I can't stop the Lamictal XL but I think I'm gonna lay off the supplements for a while and see what's up.

Keep me posted, sis. I'm in full battle with my meds. You can read my summer hair plan on my blog. In addition to that, I've added high end seamless brushes and combs as well as a pure silk sleep scarf.

Just bumping to say that upping my biotin and my MSM over the last month has really helped things. I don't have to brush everyday and I can actually comb my hair dry without pulling out a handful of hair. If any ladies are struggling with hair issues due to medications, talk to your doctor about these supplements because they are working for me. I'm currently at 7 mg of biotin in 2500 mg of MSM.
