Anyone go relaxer-free after MSM success?

I am definitely singing the praises of MSM.

I take 2000 mgs. per day with plenty of water. My hair already grows like a weed, but if I told you the amount of hair growth I got in only 2 weeks by taking MSM, you wouldn't even believe me. I notice my hair not only grows wicked fast from MSM, but my new growth is also EXTREMELY soft and shiny.

So, QUESTION. Since I haven't had a need to relax my new growth at all due to the new softness/shine, is there anyone who was able to achieve satisfactory enough results by simply taking MSM that you no longer desire to relax your hair to get the manageability and texture you prefer?

I'm just wondering what a whole head of "MSM hair" looks and feels like, compared to one's previous MSM-deficient hair.

Funny u should mention this, raven...I was wondering why I didnt have significant new growth when Im 5 weeks post relaxer. I was panicking and thinking that my hair wasnt growing. when I examined my hair closely, I realized that my new growth was so soft and straighter than usual, that I could hardly distinguish it from my previously relaxed hair. My hair seems longer...I guess its the MSM. I wonder how I will get a touch up when my stylist wont be able to see the kinks....

I've noticed the same thing. THe MSM has definitely made the regrowth so much softer and straighter thats its harder to tell my regrowth now. Even when I put my fingers in the hair and feel. Its like I haven't had any growth or something which feels odd

I like this though since it eliminates the whole different texture thing and keeps the entire hair strand more uniform.

Dig it - I know! I, too, have been running my index finger over the new growth area all over to detect any slight variation in texture from the relaxed area, and there isn't any, except the "MSM hair" is stronger and feels a little SOFTER than the relaxed part!

My new growth feels soft like when I was a baby!

Ladies what brands are you taking? I didn't notice this at all. I haven't noticed much of a differents pre-MSM, post-MSM. How long have you been taking it?

I noticed the same thing when I first going hard on the MSM thing. Since then though, I became kind of lax with taking it (like a few times a week when I remember) so the effects haven't been that strong. I was thinking about just dropping it from my regimen, but reading your posts makes me reconsider. Maybe next time I'll just buy the capsules instead of the powder which is a pain to mix when I'm in a rush. BTW, I got my last tub from www.puremsm.com.

I take GNC's Lignisul MSM capsules. It says MSM 1000 on the front of the bottle, and on the back it says in small print something about the Lignisul. Yeah, who has time to mix powder with liquid? These capsules ARE in powder form, just coated in gelatin. Gelatin dissolves even in water, so it's easy for your stomach acid to break down. I take one capsule in the morning and another in the evening.

Another thing I notice is BETTER SLEEP and more vivid dreams. Last night I dreamt that business mogul Georgette Mosbacher told me the secret to wealth by phone! I could hear her voice clearly and everything. I get more sound sleep by taking MSM.

Something else I've noticed from taking MSM is a shrunken keloid, flattened stretch marks and no longer ashy elbows and ankles. MSM softens hair, nails AND skin cells and gives them pliability. My elbows haven't been this soft since I was a little girl!

My skin is like buttah, I tell ya.

I do want to emphasize the IMPORTANCE of drinking plenty of water and/or pure juice with MSM and throughout the day to flush it on through.

My first try at MSM were these cheapo tablets that had a ton of fillers, binders and coating. Never one to drink much water (I know, shame on me), I didn't bother upping my water intake then. Child, I broke out in an itchy rash ALL OVER my body, from head to toe (even the soles of my feet) that lasted for a solid week. It was WORSE than chicken pox! I had huge zits on my face and everything. The toxins were coming out through my skin since there wasn't enough water to pass them through my kidneys.

By the time I got the all-over body rash, I drank water like a champ, but it took several days for the rash to subside. I swore off MSM for good, but then decided to try it again months later by taking a better form (powder in a capsule as opposed to hard tablets) and promising to drink way more water. For those who don't like water, drink pure, unsweetened apple juice instead.

I read everyone's precautions about drinking plenty of H2O but was too stubborn to follow the advice and paid dearly for it. Since I can't stomach drinking a ton of water at once, every time I pee, I drink a big mug of room temperature water or apple juice. Drinking it cold takes much longer to get down.

Anyway girls, let my story be a lesson to ya.

, and the keloid, if it made mine go down that would save me alot of money ty for the info

you know what?... in my cruising of the site i noticed that most of the people that have had super success with msm were hairtype 3A, 3c. do you think it works better on those haortypes than us 4A 4B girls?

btw, i'm dying to try it but i'm so afraid of the skin problems, i already have skin problems because i take alot of medication...

I should clarify something. In my previous post I said MSM softens nails. It doesn't soften them like make them WEAK, it kinda makes them stronger and more pliable so they're not so dry that they peel, split and crack. Another thing I've noticed on MSM is better circulation (my hands and feet are no longer cold all the time), pink nailbeds and very white, strong nails. MSM is the only thing I've changed about my lifestyle, so I know this is what is making everything turn around.

I'm not sure if it's animal or veggie gelatin that the GNC capsules are coated with. They could be coated in horse poo and I'd still take them for these amazing benefits!

As far as my keloid is concerned, it was previously the size of a walnut. I got it after having a mole removed by a doctor. It was to the point where it would NOT stop growing, itching and hurting. I was scared. I knew I couldn't have it removed because it would only grow back.

Within 2 weeks of taking the MSM, my keloid literally shrunk in HALF, and it keeps getting flatter and softer. I also just started using those new Band-Aid scar healing strips that are supposed to completely flatten keloids and I am noticing EVEN MORE improvement in this keloid from that, coupled with the MSM.

There is a product called Rejuveness (www.rejuveness.com) that is similar to these Band-Aid scar strips, but costs 4x the amount, plus you have to buy special tape in addition to the product. Forget that! These Band-Aid strips can be cut to the size of your scar. It takes 8 weeks to notice a flattened keloid, they say, but I'm noticing improvement after just one week! One box of these Band-Aid scar strips is like $10, as opposed to $40+ for Rejuveness. A box of these Band-Aid strips can last for YEARS if your scar is relatively small in size.

The skin problems on MSM only last a week until you are detoxed. My skin is fine now. Hope this info helps!

Raven do you take 2000 mgs or 2000mcg's because i got a bottle today and it says 1000mcg, i dont tihnk they make it in 1000 mg. but anyways i'm thinking about taking 2 pills daily thats 2000 mcg's or 2mg, does anyone think this will be enough to do the trick? also i have very sensative skin so i'm scared that i break out, so if i do, what should i do to clear the bumps or whatever up???

yeah i'm trippin, i jus looked at my bottle closely and their 1000 mg capsules, so i'll take 2 a day. will that be enough to do tha trick, and also if i break out how do u get rid of the bumps, and why do ppl drink so much water while taking MSM?

My GNC MSM says 1000 milligrams, too. I caution you not to start by taking 2 capsules at first, nor at the same time. When I tried taking MSM for the first time (and broke out in the rash), I started by taking 2 tablets immediately. That was too much.

When I tried MSM again, I took 1000 mgs. per day (one capsule) for two weeks. Then I increased to 2 capsules a day. And even then, I only take one in the morning and one in the evening, never both at once.

See, MSM is also a POTENT detoxifier. If you've never detoxed and cleaned out your system or haven't in a while, all of the old toxins in your system will be flushed out. The more MSM in your system, the more powerful the detox.

Drinking water is important to enable these toxins to be flushed out in your pee (via your kidneys) as opposed to coming out through your skin, causing breakouts. Remember, I wasn't drinking much water at all, so the toxins all came out through my skin. Being an avid colon cleanser and mainly a vegetarian, I didn't think that I had that much junk hanging out in my system! So if you're a heavy meat eater, if you smoke, if you eat a lot of junk laden with preservatives, artificial flavors and colors and such, be forewarned.

As I said before, the breakouts don't last forever for most of us. It's just an initial breaking out. I've noticed, though, that if I don't keep up on my water intake that I get kind of zit-prone. They should write a warning on the back of the bottle to drink plenty of water!

My nails used to be so brittle, but now they're so strong, thick and white I don't need to apply my trusty Sally Hansen nail products to prevent them from peeling and cracking!

Or, it might counter act the effect of the junk foods that could ultimately kill you later in life (heart attack, stroke, diabetes, etc.

) but you would still need to modify that diet!

Okay, enough of the jokes.

You might want to start with a lower dosage and work up and drink lots of water. I'm presently taking Country Life Maxi-hair with 300mg of MSM per one tablet.

Wowee! Guys, I've been reading about MSM, and there's so much to it than I knew. (I apologize if this has already been posted. Just had to tell somebody!) There's just too much info to post here without getting writer's cramp so I'll give you the link to the website I was reading instead. I do want to mention for those who don't have time to visit the website now, that it says MSM along with Vitamin C...

- helps the nails/hair grow stronger and faster
- helps make skin more elastic and reduces scar tissue and wrinkles

So in addition to drinking lots of water, make sure you're getting sufficient Vitamin C from food or supplements.

Here's the website that has me

to MSM. (Note there are 4 pages of info.)
