The search function was not working all that great for me......I just purchased this product recently and I was wondering how you ladies are using it. With heat or without and how long are you leaving it in? and is it best to use a moisturizing conditioner afterwards like with most protein treatments. Thanks

I use it with no heat. I just put it in, shower, and rinse it out. I don't use anything afterwards.

Its funny you ask this question today. Last night I used the Deep Conditioner w/ heat, and I noticed once I took the bag off my head, it was kind of dry. So I thought thats weird, I guess I must have had the heat up too high. Well I rinsed it w/ warm water, and cool water for my final rinse and it wasn't as soft as before. I got back under the dryer to partially dry my hair w/ my giavonni leave-in direct, organic moisturizer sealed w/ coconut oil and let the rest dry overnight. Well this morning when I got up it was very very dry, not extremely hard, but not as soft as usual.

A time before I used it and slept w/ the conditioner on my hair overnight and rinsed the following morning and let it completely air dry while tied down w/ a satin scarf.....silk as butter.

So the next time I will be using it w/out heat. But for the other Intensive treatment that I used once a week for that same line Damage Remedy I will use heat for it, cause it didn't dry out at all and made my hair feel good.

This is the main reason why I posted my question. I have the Intensive treatment and I was wondering if my hair would be dry if I used it with heat... I guess I could try it both ways see how my hair responds.

I leave it on for 10 - 20 minutes with heat, and sometimes I use it without heat. I use Aveda's Damage Remedy Conditioner afterwards.

I've never had a problem with it making my hair dry / hard afterwards, but I moisturize the heck outta my hair since I'm transitioning.

Do you use the DR shampoo also?

I leave it on for about 30 minutes, without heat. I usually follow up with the DR conditioner.

Thanks ladies I will probably try it without heat tonight and see how my hair responds. I'll just use my Elucence Moisturizing conditioner after since I have not purchased the DR conditioner yet.

I leave it on 20-30 min with heat with great results.
I use the DR shampoo and follow up with the DR or Elucence conditioner and my hair is not dry at all.
You may want to use Distilled water as a final rinse and see if makes a difference with your hair.
I try to use Distilled water after all my protein treatments.

this si the third thread about aveda products in the last two weeks. im gonna get me some. i have the humectant pomade and i love it as i am transitioning. when i put my hair in a wet bun it makes my curls pop. i also have the brilliant conditioner but have yet to use it.

Well I decided to try it last night with heat for 20 minutes and I conditioning using Elucence MB for 30-40 minutes with heat. My hair came out really nice, bouncy and fluffy after I flatironed. I am going to try the DR shampoo and conditioner also.
