I love the texture of my natural hair but I think the curls may be just a little too tight for me. I’ve found a stylist to do my relaxer so on 02/18/04 I will be backed to relaxed hair. My last touch-up was Sept. 2003. I think my hair needed the break. As far as the stylist I’ve seen his work and he’s good. I may ask him to leave some of the curl in my hair. (Texturizer) I’ll keep everyone posted. Thumbs up to all you natural ladies…

I BC'd back in September & I'm still getting used to my natural hair after 20-something years of relaxing. Going back to the relaxer doesn't make you any more or less Ishevonne, does it? You tried, and that's what matters. You may decide to go natural later. You have to do what makes you happy!

I think I'm where you are as far as the natural hair thing. I feel kinda trap by it, but I'm holding out for 2 more inches. Then I will be going to the Curve Salon to get the Curly Curly special

I've been natural for quite some time, natural and knowing how to properly care for my hair for nearly 1 year. I may be right behind you, I've started to workout at the gym and I can't be spending my ususal 45 minutes to an hour in the shower trying to detangle. I'm looking into the Deep Brilliance relaxer, but haven't found a sylist at JC Penney that I'm comfortable with yet.

LisaG & Brooke007: Thanks for the replys. I think I took good care of it while it lasted. I'll be starting my workout next week as well so the relaxer will be needed.

Crysdon: I love your hair.

I'm right there with ya

I will have been natural for 2 years in June. So it's been 20 months. But I will be getting a relaxer in June when I take my second set of braids out. If it's really what you want I say go for it, you'll be happy

I know how you feel. I am going back to relaxed hair because I just don't have the time to do my two strand twists and the other style that now take me HOURS to do. I am a mother, a wife, a full time worker, and a part time student. I spend hours doing my daughter's hair, which is very long for a four year old. I made the decision to return to relaxed hair when I started having unbearable back pain and couldn't do my twists. I just couldn’t take it any more. So I made an appointment with my old hairstyles and I am getting a relaxer on March 17, 2004.

I've been natural for almost three year in August. I have a few family member that’s glad I am return to relaxers but I have decide to go back to my roots when my life it less hectic. I didn’t have a problem caring for my natural hair and would get compliments from people. I even convince my cousin and her two daughters to go natural with me. I called her and explain that I will be getting a relaxer. Of course, she doesn’t want me to. But my cousin learned how to braid with hair added. She told me I could learn and she would let me borrow her tape. But what she fails to realize I just don’t have the time. I talked her into doing my hair once but she had her self and two daughters to do and didn’t have the time to keep doing my hair when I needed my hair braided.Part of me is happy and part of me is SAD.

I am going to try the no-shampoo method when I get my relaxer. This board has taught me how to care for relaxed hair, so I know it will be healthy.

I know how you feel- after 2 years of being natural, I texturized (about 2 weeks ago)...
And like someone said, at least you tried...

How did your texturizer turn out??? Did you do it your self?? That is also an option for me besides fully relaxing in June. And are you happy with your decision?

Hi everybody, I must be weird because I really love having relaxed hair. I have had virgin hair all my life and just received my first relaxer Dec 10, 2003. I found taking care of my natural hair to be a pain. I would lose a lot of hair when combing especially if I washed my hair:(. My hair is so extremely thick I would dread washing it myself. I would get it washed and pressed professionally every 2 to 3 weeks. My hair is still very thick and wavy even with the relaxer. It still shrinks up a lot when wet like it used to. Theirs really not to much difference except I can comb it so much easier whithout taking out a lot of hair. This is the first time in my life I have ever washed my hair every 3 days:)!! It's grown alot. My hairdresser used Mizini in mild on my hair. Well let me stop rambling on. Lshevonne I hope your new relaxer experiecne is a good one. Just make sure that whoever dose it for you doesn't over process your hair. I told my hairdresser as soon as I felt a little burn to take it off. Good Luck!

We need a support group for all the naturals getting relaxers this year

. I have to admit it, I'm scurred y'all.

I don't have any political anti-relaxer or pro relaxer misgivings but I'm scurred of the burn, scurred that all my work over the last year will be for naught, scurred of some crazy hairdresser breaking my hair off, scurred I'm a be underprocessed. I'm a just a big scaredy cat.

But then I think about all the products and methods I get to try again. The stuff that did nothing for my natural hair (like LUST) and I'm re-motivated.

But I'm still scurred.

I feel you guys. I was thinking about transitioning. Still am. I bought the Fiberguard relaxer the week of 1/26 but can't put it in yet. I think it's psychological. Every weekend that I say that I'm going to put it in, my scalp starts itching terribly. So I scratch my scalp and put it off for another week. But without fail, my scalp starts itching again. And since it's lye, I'm not trying to put in a relaxer with as much new growth as I have with an irritated scalp. So I feel all of you that's scurred. It's been over 6 months and I've just stopped keeping track of the number of weeks it's been. I'm just taking it one day at a time.

We DO need a support group
smile.gif
I'm scared too, I'm scared that soemthing will go wrong with putting in the relaxer and I'll think you should've jsut left your hair alone. But I'm with Brooke here, I dread washing my hair it takes FOREVER, y hair is really curly like 3c and I think it's harder to detangle my hair than my girlfriends hair which is 4b. My hair has been in braids since the 1st week of December and I'm getting them redone in March and will keep them until I relax just so that I don't have to do my hair

Well, I did it.
I didn't get the texturizer, I let him do the Affirm Fiberguard. My hair has so much body and feels great.
He did tell me to put a little oil on my scalp. (olive oil)
I was suprised about that comment. He based my scalp, made sure I wasn't burning. He put me under the dryer for a short time and then blow-dryed the rest of the way. He trimmed my ends and shaped my hair a little. He likes to trims with each touch-up. (1/8th -1/4th of an inch) If I tell him not to he said he won't. I think I'll be going back to him. Oh, he used a Ceramic Iron.

That's great lshevonne, I know your hair is beautiful. Sounds like you have a good stylist too.

No your not weird. I share your sentiments. That's why I always say, it really does boil down, to ease of styling.

That's the only reason Most people decide to relax in the first place.

Ishevonne I'm sure you look great either way...
