It's been too long since I've been on the boards - Please remind me what's the best relaxer (lye) you've had success growing your hair with.

Self-relaxers - what's your process and how do you prevent overlapping??

Alter Ego Linange Shea Butter Relaxer

My mother relaxes my hair, but to prevent overlapping I:
-Coat my previously relaxed hair with vaseline
-Stretch my relaxer for 16 weeks

I like and have had much success with vitale life and body. Although I do not self relax I put black castor oil on my hair before going to the salon.

Silk Elements no lye relaxer got my hair really strait. I have no nasty relaxed hair smell either. It was the mild formula and it was very gentle, no burning. If I were to continue relaxing strait, I would use this relaxer.

The consensus on here seems to be Affirm Fibreguard, Mizani Butter Blends and Design Essentials. I've tried all of them and I like Affirm (and DE):)

Bumping, bumping cos i want to know too. Also, I dont mean to hijack the thread (sorry OP ) but if anyone has a review on the Hawaiian Silky 3-in-1 Conditioning Relaxer, I would luuuurve to know. TIA

I take everything you all recommend into consideration. My hair has always thrived when I've used advice from here and suffered when I didn't.

Don't worry @ hijacking threads Emz Forever - bc all information goes into the same pot so to speak & helps. Personally I found Hawaiian Silky a little harsh. I'd returned to Elasta QP, but it's also caused breakage.

disgtgyal, I'll have to try Black Castor Oil as a base. I've never heard of that before.

Chevelure618, I'm going to go back to Design Essentials -- I used it 4 yrs ago & only stopped bc I left the hairstylist who used it and went to someone else (baaaaad move)...

ShyIntellect, I'm @ 12 weeks so the roots are ready :D

Thanks everybody for the good advice!

Elucence lye normal relaxer was the best relaxer i ever used when i was relaxed. it was VERY gentle, no burning, my hair was still thick and healthy. if i relax again, i will be going back to it.

i would spray my hair with Aphogee Green Tea Restructurizer the night before to prevent over-processing and i texlaxed every 4-5 months. I think any light-med protein would help prevent over-processing.

I wanted to try that relaxer so bad because I use almost all the other products from the Elucence line and I love them, but I was not able to locate any website where I could purchase the relaxer. Where did you get yours?

i LUUUUUUUUUUURRRRVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the Mizani. when i was going to my hair lady she used that on me, and it got my hair super straight. ♥

i ordered mine from mrgees.net but that was back in 2006-2007. Elucence said they would no longer supply him with products because he was taking people's money but wasn't filling orders. i hate that too because you didn't need a license to order from him. i never had any problems when i ordered from him. i recently tried to call his # just to see if he was still open. the # doesn't work anymore. the pleasantimage.com website has them. but you have to have a license to order them.

when my sister's friend gets her license in December i will probably be ordering the gentle relaxer because i want to texturize my hair. i have an unopened 4 lb tub of the Normal relaxer left, but it was ordered in 2007. i don't know if it's still safe to use even though i've never opened it.

I love Silk Elements Lye Relaxer in Mild. I have been using it for almost two years now and I relax every 16-20 weeks.

I like Mizani Butter Blends... to prevent overlap I stretch for a minimum of 16 wks and coat my relaxed ends with conditioner...

I love Design Essentials. My stylist coats my previously relaxed hair with conditioner, even now that its super short.

Silk elements Lye relaxer in mild! I use it to texturize my hair. So i warn you that it is not STRONG! But it left my hair very soft. It didnt even feel like a just put a dangerous, eye blinding chemical on my hair:grin: I also mixed oil & conditioner into it.

I dont know how im going to prevent over-lapping since i just relaxed my virgin hair. I will probably put conditioner, oil, AND grease on my previously relaxed hair. Also having a significant amount of NG helps...A LOT! I use to only relax 2x a year. I think i might relax 3x a year now.
