I'm 11 weeks post-relaxer.....I'm looking for some tips for low maintenance styles. I get roller sets when I go to the shop. I've tried roller setting at home, its hard enough when I have a fresh relaxer, but it is down right comedic this far post relaxer.

So I've seen posts about braid outs and I am wondering, is it possible to wear braid outs on previously relaxed hair? :perplexed

I'm a bit afraid to try it out, so I wanted to see if any ladies here have any tips or suggestions (products and/or regimen) to obtain a good braid out on relaxed hair.......

Yes! Sylver is the queen of braid outs, lol. I believe she's 11 months post now, and that's one of her main styles that help her get through long stretches. She makes it look easy... I believe she has a pic tutorial in her fotki.

Yes, I wear braidouts even when I am more than 15 weeks post relaxer and they look really good. I am almost 12 weeks post and will be wearing a braidout for the weekend.

I do my braids on 80-100% air-dried hair (creamy leave in applied before air drying).

I moisturise each section with mango or shea butter and sometimes seal with an oil. I do 5 cornrows and put rollers on my ends. I leave them in overnight and take them out the next morning. I use my fingers to shake up my roots and hide the lines.

I did a braid out last year around this time and was a few weeks post with highly texlaxed ends. You can find a pic in my fotki: www.fotki.com/malibu4590

I would post it but I'm responding on my G1. HTH!

Thanks, after seeing your post, I searched for Sylver's posts...and found her fotki. I watched the video tutorial and I am now under the dryer trying my first braid out.......

We'll see what happens, I'll post pics after I dry :drunk:

I wear braidouts even when I don’t have a lot of new growth, here are a few pics ..

Ok, so I tried the braid out...

The pics aren't as good as I'd like but I am happy with the result. I was a bit too anxious and was not fully dry when I took the braids out. I'm sure the next time I try it will be a lot better....Thanks for all the tips ladies....

First pic is before I washed.....

Is anyone not braiding to the scalp and still achieving maximum results? I would love to do one but i cant braid it going straight back like that..

I don't know why, but I look like a wet rat when I tried to do a braid out on my hair:lachen:. I must have done something really wrong because I did not care for it at all:nono:. I may try again in a few years:yep:.

I'm with you Aggie I can't seem to get braidout nor twist right. I'm 20 weeks post transitioning 3b/3c hair type and it seems to always look frizzing. I've tried them wet/dry and had one successful braidout with cornrows. I'll keep trying.

tberry2688 - I love your braidout! Did you do cornrows or box braids?

I sure wish I could see the other pics. (Most pics don't show up on my work comp.)

tberry I thought you were natural, I'm looking at the pic like ain't nobody in there relaxed, lol...

Looks good

I'm relaxed and I love braid outs! Once you find the products that work best for you, you will want to wear them all the time!

I typically use Rusk Smoother and Coconut Oil for my braid outs but for this one I was in Jamaica and had limited luggage space so I used water and ORS Carrot Oil.

Ok here are some better photos of my first braid out. Since I didn't let it dry all the way, last night I decided to try something. I re-did my plaits, and coiled them around.....I'm really loving my hair today  !!!! I have found my new low maintenance style!!!! Thank you to everyone that posted....the video by Sylver really helped me alot!!!! With braid outs I'm sure I can reach 16 weeks for my stretch with no problems...I may stretch further, we'll see!

BTW....It must not have looked as bad as I thought yesterday.....One girl said she liked my hair, asked me if it was all mine, I told her yes. Her response was "Oh well now that I know its all yours I love it!!! What did you do??" So I'm paying the braid out tip forward!!!
Happy Growing Ladies!!!

HTH!

My Goodness this is pretty! I'll try a braid out again this weekend. I think my cornrows were too small before. Thanks for sharing your pics.

Yep, I've done braidouts before and Im relaxed. Im going to start doing them again. I like Sylvers and Macheriamour's turorials. Putting rollers on my ends really helped with the look too!

Your video on youtube was my guide, THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I'm sure my next attempt will be much better. I went to the shop and got a roller set today but I plan on washing in two weeks and doing the braid outs through out the spring/summer months.
