Anyone else wearing braids this winter /images/graemlins/trampoline.gif I am seriously considering wearing braids this winter.
My Reasons:
*Less Washing-Im a frequent washer and its becoming too cold to wash my hair every 3 days
*Dry Winter-I will be able to JAM PACK my hair with moisture /images/graemlins/grin.gif
*Retain Length-so I can reach my goal by the end of the year /images/graemlins/grin.gif
* /images/graemlins/wave.gif Ugly Bun

I'm doing the braid thing to this winter too. I'm with u on the moisture thing and less washing. for me the wet head and cold air= the flu for me /images/graemlins/nono.gif!!!!

I was thinking about it but I have never had braids before. I may just get cornrows with hair added the whole winter.

I'm definitely braiding. That is the method I'm using to grow my hair out! I've been doing it for the past 3 months and it's working really well for me!

I made an appointment for this upcoming Saturday to get braids done.

Denali, what products will you be using the moisturize your braids.

Denali, please, please post your regimen for braids. How often will you spray the s-curl?

im going to get braids, but put weave over top of it. i dont like braids as a style on me /images/graemlins/frown.gif

I braided my ahir on friday. I going to try and keep them in until thanksgiving or a little after. That'll be around the time I need a touch-up. My hair needs a break. I don't know If I'll keep them in all winter. I might switch up between braids, cornrows and pinning my hair up ( too short for a bun yet).

I haven't figured out a regimen just yet. I am still undecided on the braids

i used to spray my braids with s-curl every night. no big thing to it, just srapyed each braid and i washed my hair once a week using the hairlady's method of placing a cap of shampoo in a large cup and pouring water over it.

What kind of hair do you ususally use? Human or synthetic?

I'm seriously contemplating braids this winter too. I'm leaning towards getting braids more and more rather than leaving my hair out...I'll make my decision soon and if I get them it'll be in late December.

I am...Im starting with these kinky twists. Mainly because Its sooooo cold wherre my school is located and i need water to style my hair otherwise. My damp hair would freeze outside so With the braids/twists, I wont have to do anything.

Are you guys planning to do your own braids or get them done? Do you know of any sites that list braid styles? I'm seriously considering braids, but I want something very professional looking.

Thanks in advance,
Jen

I get mine professionally done. I usually get cornrows with extensions (synthetic hair). I use Worlds of Curls on the braids and Surge mixed with castor oil on my scalp. I wore braids like this all summer.

I do my own braids or I get my sister to do them if I happen to go home when I want braids. I'm using brainds for the fall and winter to grow out my hair. Right now, I'm 15 weeks post relaxer. I'm trying to get two more weeks out of my braids. After that I haven't decided if I will braid again or get a perm... I'm thinking about using stretch-a-perm to manage my new growth then put on some more braids and see if I can stretch till March! /images/graemlins/perplexed.gif That would be 8 months without a perm! I am so dreaming...

Im definitely braiding..this weekend, Im going to buy human hair and get my sis to do them for me...I love braids but Im not too good /images/graemlins/frown.gif about washing and keeping them moist (since Im natural I worry about the frizz) which leads to me having too many split ends and having to trim a lot (abt evry six mths)..Im going to try and do better this time. Anyways NYC'ers where can I get good human hair from? I want curly/wet and wavy hair cos I figure the frizz will be less obvious

If I want to keep my hair, I'm definately keeping ,my braids. My hair is super dry. I will be using my water, glycerine, and castor oil combo. Plus I always do something stupid when it's down for too long.

I'm going to Swaziland for Christmas so I definitely will get braids while I'm there, i might as well, they do them so well and its cheap too.

This seems to be part of my yearly regimen too. I'm always braided around finals time, and my appt is Nov. 6 for some cornrows /images/graemlins/grin.gif I can't wait... no more detangling/washing/whatever for a month /images/graemlins/trampoline.gif ...A much needed vacation.

I'm getting braids too. I am wearing deep wave this time around. Also I have 2 packs of color number 2 outre straight hair 18 inches for sale if anyone is interested. It is too short for me now.

I tend to have my hair in flat twists or braids throughout the year anyway and I still rinse, but I rinse my hair in a stocking cap, so that it will not frizz up, also wrap a towel around my hair, afterwards I surge and put castor on my roots and I wear a lined beret. I have been wearing on since the weather had got colder. I shall be going to visit a friend in Switzerland and the weather in winter is a dry cold, so I shall probably still rinse, but I always wear a hat.

I'm trying something different this year. I'm wearing a complete weave (except for the top center of my hair). Hopefully this will save my edges + give me the growth that I normally get with braids. /images/graemlins/up.gif

Braids are definately the best during the winter...protects the hair from the harshness of the elements...and keeps the lenght...Usually i wear a weave but im thinking about the braiding routine on growafrohairlong.com, it seems to have worked for many individuals....

lol I hope this post goes through...last time It wouldnt, I paid my money!!!

I'm tired of doing my hair once a week already....I am definitely getting some braids put in during the weekend of the 4th. I'll keep them until right before X-mas...I will get a fresh set for the new year and keep going till I get tired of braids.
