Breakage after cornrows

dejuan, just because there's alot of hair in the comb right after taking cornrows down doesn't necessarily indicate breakage. depending on how long they were in, it could be the hair that is normally shed.
if it is breakage, it's probably because the braids were not properly moisturized and/or cared for. curl activator is an excellent product for moisture. that's what i used for my individuals...

you guys love that hair cycle dont you? lol im pretty sure you dont shed that much hair a day other wise you have a big bald spot. come on now they need to fix that hair cycle i have never lost 50 to 100 hairs with white things on the end. Plus he only leave them in for about a week.

So you could maybeinvest in these personally, I've had cornrows for over 2 years and in the process of trial and error, my hair went from ear length to now shoulder length.
So I mean its all about what works for yo and how you take care of your hair. But don't give it up!! Keep working on it and soon you'll hit a growth secret for yourself!!

i didn't say anything about hair cycles. i said the hair sheds while in braids. your post was not complete. so i had no idea how long he had the braids. my bad...

another cause for his breakage is that he may be combing his hair all wrong and with the wrong types of combs. I know that before these boards, I was pullin my hair out all the time because I did n ot know how to comb my hair properly.
I also did not realize that you should not comb the hair dry. Well if it's natrual anyway.
And before you say"Well you just comb it right?" WRONG! A good example of that is the pick. Picks actually just RAKE all the hair out because they tear through tangles. That's why when people use picks they usually have a TON of hair in their pic. A friend of mine had braids, and didn't realize it wasn't the BRAIDS that broke her hair, it was her ruff handling while she undid the braids, combed out her hair and washed, she was RUFF and ripping hair out of her head not knowing that when you hit a tangle for example., you should work it out with your fingers, NOT COMB THROUGH IT!!
Also by combing the hair properly, I mean from the ends & slowly working the way up towards the roots. However, most will just take a comb and rake it from roots to ends and if there is a tangle they just pull harder.
Also were his cornrows too tight? That could have PULLED more hair from the root that wasn't ready to be shed.

Adrienne is right. Normally hair sheds up to 50-100 strands a day. When in rows, the hair still sheds, but is caught up in the rows and has no where to go. When the rows come out, so does all that shed hair. I had this and was scared, but the LHCF put my fears to rest. If you expect it to happen, it's not as scary.

I know this is a REALLY old thread but I'm glad I found it.
I just took out my cornrows that had been in for nearly 3 weeks and when I blow dried, there was hardly any hair on my floor
erplexed but a whole bunch came out in my comb when I de tangled and my hair was not difficult to comb through at all.
I panicked, then I thought hair sheds 50-100 hairs a day and for 3 weeks my shed hairs had nowhere to go. Reading this thread just confirmed what I was suspecting.
