Hey ladies! I have a quick question. If using a brush is bad for your hair, please explain how getting a D/bo is good. It's my understanding that a round brush is used in the blowout process. I'm curious b/c I've heard and seen so many good results that I may get the D/bo one day. Also, if anyone here has given themselves a D/bo, could you let us know the process, post pics, whatever you can do. Thanks.:)

D/bo pronounced dee-boh

:lachen: *LOL* @ "D/bo pronounced dee-boh" But, seriously, I have always wondered the same thing....brushes are horrible for my hair especially late into my relaxer stretches....I might as well just do a regular blowdry and flat iron if I am going to be raking a brush through my dry or wet hair. The concept is scary.

i wonder too, they blow dry and brush and all the women in there have slamming hair. but honestly, I blow dry and use a flat iron (once a week) and I do not suffer breakage or lack of growth. Ihad thoes problems when I shampooed too frequently. Maybe they use really great protective conditioners.

I haven't experienced a D/bo yet. ;-) But theoretically speaking. I'd think that there are good benefits as well as bad things about a D/bo. The good benefit i'd think is that the high heat seals the cuticle layer which makes your hair resist breakage and gives your hair a blinding shine and swing. The bad thing a bout a D/bo (i'm assuming) is that the brushing on the hair can eventually thin out your hair. This is why i believe i see alot of women with superstraight shiny hair but yet it is very thin. (their hair appears to be 'trained' which means they get it rollerset/blown out alot). Alot of the strands have been brushed out...this of course would only be if you were to get the blowout often like every week or every 2 weeks of course. getting one once in a while for special occasions may be safe. I am sticking to a regular rollerset in order to retain my thickness.

I ask every stylist that I come in contact with the question "so what's your take on the dominican salons" and I mostly get the same answer. "Watch the products they use (there's alot of chop shops in the Jersey area), don't go more than once a week because of the intense heat from the dryer and do not let them blow it out with a round brush." My stylist friend explained that blow drying with a round brush is damaging and can cause thinning to relaxed tresses. A round brush is for naturally curlly or heavy hair that needs straightening. So my guess is no round brush on relaxed hair. I usually ask for them to hit my edges with the dryer and a comb. But we've all learned direct heat is NO GOOD.

Yep, a lot of them use cheap products. I like my stylist to use products that I can't get at my BSS.

brushes arent bad for me...in fact they are less damaging than combs are! at least on my head thats how it is....

ive never had breakage or anything bad come out of a D/BO (LOL at the new name!)

Thanks ladies for replying to (and laughing at :p ) my message. I guess I just figured that if it's bad enough that we brush at home, it can't be ok for a beauty shop that uses heat and has to brush it alot harder to get it straight. I guess I should have directed this question to ladies with relaxed hair since our hair is more fragile, but I would think it would pull out natural hair too, just not as much. :perplexed
