Can I use leave in as my heat protectant, or should I purchase an actual heat protect product? In particular Lacio Lacio or any moisturizing leave in (I assume protein would be too drying).

I believe it helps ...but when flat-ironing I use both ....I think using a Heat Protectant is very important.....If I could only choose one ..I'd pick the Heat Protectant...

It depends on the leave-in conditioner. There are some leave-in conditioners that also act as heat protectants. You just have to read the instructions. Two leave-ins that come to mind that act as such are chi silk infusion and Silk2 Penetrating leave-in conditioner. Both conditioners are enhanced by the use of heat.
