I am getting extremely frustrated I am having issues getting my nape to grow out I have been having issues with this for a long time. I'm currently using Doo Gro products any other ideas?

I'd say the hair at your nape is growing just fine (unless you have a serious scalp problem back there), you're just having problems maintaining what you grow. Do you think maybe you're experiencing breakage at your nape?

Also, what is your current regimen and how do you style your hair? Do you wear wigs or tie scarves? Does the hair there feel dry?

Thanks for responding. And yes it feels extremely dry I know its breaking more than likely, but I have a hard time finding the right product to keep it moisturized. I'm wearing my hair in a wrap. I relax every 10 weeks i style my hair at home. I wash, blowdry with comb attatchment and flat iron biweekly my hair type is 4b. If you want to see a picture visit the link on my siggy, if it dosent work you may have to type it in. Thanks

Hmmm ... I think maybe just paying extra attention to that area may be all that's needed if the problem is simply breakage.

Unfortunately, finding a good moisturizer is trial and error for most people. Maybe you could just spray the area a few times a day with water or a water/glycerine mix etc until you find a good moisturizer.

I noticed that on your blog you talk about experimenting with Aphogee. Are you still doing this? It's just that Aphogee mainly has 'protein products' and if you're experiencing dryness, it's probably better to lean towards more moisturizing products.

Is there a way for you to style your hair without blow drying or flatironing that area? I realize it's easier said than done, but the heat is probably worsening the amount of breakage. Or maybe you could flat iron less than bi-weekly?

I have/had nape issues. What helped me was moisturizing with qp mango butter. i noticed that the breakage was from overlapping relaxer and friction back there. Now I keep my nape hairs braided and moisturized when my hair is down and at night. I've also skipped 2 relaxers to prevent overlap. Oh, i also seal with castor oil. Always. some people just use it by itself :)

I put some sort of cream, butter, or moisturizer on my my edges around my entire head several times a week to reduce friction because I wear wigs and i won't have any issues with thinning or breakage. Kbb hair milk or nectar, afroveda curly custard or shea alma or unrefined shea butter that I've mixed with coconut oil are a few of the things that I've used. You do tie your hair up right?

I had severe breakage in my nape for years. I started using a protein (Surge 14) and moisturizer (Worlds of Curls curl moisturizer) every day on my nape and I saw major improvement.:yep: Since Surge is so hard to find now, you may want to 911 leave-in conditioner (You can find this in beauty supply stores) or Infusium 23. Also you may not want to relax your nape for a while.

I had this issue for 20 years, and I'm in only my twenties:grin::grin: I was first relaxed at five.

What worked for me: not relaxing that area at all. No heat (direct or indirect). Moisture every day for the first few months, now I just do it after I wash: plain water, castor oil, shea butter, whatever you have on hand. Also, twists/braids/cornrow (for that area) 24/7.

The only thing I can think of, as to why this area would continuously break off, is that the SCALP was damaged in some way, and needed long term moisture/no heat/no relaxer to recover. Give yourself 6 months to a year of doing this and see what happens.

This problematic portion of my nape was TOO SHORT TO BRAID for years, until about four/five months ago. It was to the point where I was going to shave it off. Now, it's about 2/3 inches long (natural) - I imagine it would be much longer relaxed. This is a huge improvement for me. This spring, I expect it will reach APL.

Sorry for the long-winded response & HHG!
