Cathy Howse\'s technique

Hi,

Has anyone applied Cathy's system for growing long hair successfully? Any cons? Any pros? How much length did you achieve?

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

There are tons of posts about Cathy Howse here. Just do a quick search for her and I guarantee you'll find the pros cons and everything in between about her method.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

I have been using Cathy Howse system since November 02 and have achieved 8 inches of new growth! It works. I have 4a.b hair and I thought nothing would work, but hers did. It took me some trial and error to find out which products best suited me, but now I'm fine. Are you about to start using her system?

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

stylepink-

Yes, I am thinking about appling her methods to my current hair care routine. I'm hoping it will work for me. It seems my hair stops growing once it reaches a certain length. I'm trying to get to bra strap length and I have about 4 more inches to go!
Did you find her book to be informative?

I loved the book because its a easy and quick reference, but it basically says the same thing that the website says:
wash every three days, and keep hair moisturized. And she does not believe in triming her hair.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

YIKES! It seems like every post I read was nothing more than folks talking about her attitude. I'm looking for folks that can tell me IF her techniques worked or didn't work for them. What they liked or didn't liked.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

Does anyone mind posting Howse's technique? What's so different about her system that enables the people who use it to have dramatic growth? Thanks ahead of time.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

Shampoo every 3 days????? I'm not liking the sound of that.
1. I just don't have the time(work, MBA, etc....not to mention that it takes a long time for my hair to dry)
2. My hair is delicate & prone to tangling--I would be yanking more hair that retaining it if I did that.

I may just have to modify her methods to fit in with my schedule.

One thing that I found was that her conditioner made my hair a lot less tangled, particularly if I sat under the dryer as opposed to sleeping with it overnight.

I used to follow her technique to the letter. I was not taking hair vitamins at the time, and my hair grew from shoulder to brastrap in a matter of 6 months or so. Like you, I was very busy, and I got out of the habit. I would recommend washing your hair at least once a week and using the conditioner (I make mine) after EACH shampoo, no exceptions.

Really? You achieved that much hair growth? Wow! I guess I have nothing to lose huh? (except my precious strands) How do you make your own conditioner? Currently I use KeraCare Humecto or Hawaiian Silky. Do you wear protective hair styles as well?

What does your homemade condition consist of? Please do share!!!

Yeah, she does sound a little "stinky" in some of her response to peoples inquiries. But all in all, I like her system and I have been able to retain length. The only thing that did not work for me is that she suggest using a curling iron to straighten out new growth. My hair just does not like heat and doing that was making my hair hard. Thats one con. The pro is that the intensive conditioning that she says to do is excellent for your hair. Hope this helps you some.

Thx, stylepink! I think I will try her system. Now I gotta find her book.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

She has some good ideas about hair. She's a good reference to use even if you don't use 100% of her technique.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

Since she also has 4A/B hair, I am using her technique except I use no heat, I don't have her hair products, I self-relax my hair and I although I've been taking iron for years, I haven't bought any zinc yet. Cathy says there is a high concentration of zinc in the hair and a deficiency causes hair loss. She takes 15 mg/day.

By the way, has anyone noticed any good results with zinc?

Check mysimon.com, half.com, overstock.com and sites like that. That's how I got my copy. Even after shipping it was under $10. Mine was used, but in great shape. They have new copies, too.

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

I've used her system since October, 2002, and I've found her advice helpful in growing my hair.

The conditioner is 16 oz or protein conditionr ( I use ION reconstructor); 8 oz of EVOO; 4 oz of coconut oil; & 2 teaspoons of peppermint oil (essential oil). I just mix and there ya go.

Yes, I was wearing protective styles, except for when I would go get a doobie. Also, if you want, you could still follow up with the KeraCare Humecto conditioner..I'm not familiar with the Hawaiian Silky but if it's moisturizing, I think it would be okay to follow up with that.

I actually emailed her about one of her "rude" comments ( can't remember which one) and she emailed me back the same day and wasn't rude at all. Basically, I told her that I bought her book and applied a lot of what she said to my haircare routine, but I thought that she would possibly get more clients if she toned down the way she spoke to people. She responded that she was happy her program worked for me and she explained that so many people try to get over on her and don't read the book before asking questioins, so that is why she is rude sometimes.

I understand where she's coming from but still, I do believe she could be more tactful when answering her questions. However, she was courteous to me, and her system works for me, so I'm not going to knock her.

Tebby, that is very mature of you, to inquire for yourself and draw your own conclusion. People go to the website and view like 3 responses that can be construed as rude and make railing accusations. - Like you I totally understand where she's comming from. If you never walked in someones shoes you dont know how thier feeling and what thier thinking. So for you to go to her rather than just cut her up really is the right thing to do.

I emailed her several times and she has ALWAYS been courteous and helpful. I bought the book, cond, and dew, then I bought a book for a friend, I could have just let her use mine but I don't let it out my sight..

LOL

Anyway, God understands our hearts and motives and thats how he works for everyone that says, no way, he'll send 2 more that'll say, I will. So no matter what people think, God brings you through..

God Bless

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

You know what, I don't take vitamins either like I should. I gotta get committed and do that, even if it's just a one a day multi vitamin..

I'm so bad when it comes to taking pills

Re: Cathy Howse\'s technique

I follow the premises of her technique and that is to keep the hair moisturized. As a 4b who works a professional job, I can't be washing my hair every 3 days. However, I do use products that are moisturizing rather than products with a bunch of heavy grease. Keeping the hair somewhat wet has helped it grow past the shoulder and I also take only 2 hair vitamins. I also try to limit brushing. I also use her deep conditioner mix whenever I wash.

As for her comments, I still don't feel comfortable with her rudeness but she hasn't been rude to me. She responded to my emails promptly.

What I didn't like is how people said her hair wasn't long. For a 4b (and being one myself), I get so sick of people claiming hair is not long if it is not flowing all to your butt.
