Okay, so I hear of a lot of people using these new cream cleansers or condition wash cleansers instead of regular shampoo since it's supposed to be gentler and less drying on AA hair.

I've even tried a few myself....with Curls Creamy Curl Cleanser being one of my faves, but I'm also interested in trying the new L'Oreal Cream Condition Cleanser as well. :yep:

HOWEVER.....What if you like to do wash n' go's (like myself) and typically use gel or butter creams in your hair to "define and elongate curls"?? :perplexed

Do you find that these "cleansers" get rid of the gunk or buildup that may be in the hair after using gels/butter creams? Or, does the good old fashioned shampoo work best?

What should I do? I PREFER the way my hair feels and behaves when I use the cleansers as opposed to shampoo, but at the same time, I also feel like SOME cleansers (and even some sulfate-free shampoos) just dont' seem to get my hair squeaky clean like regular shampoo does. :ohwell:

What say you??

I don't do wash and go's because I'm relaxed, but I use Wen at least twice a week. I wear my hair in buns and twist outs. Once a month I use a clarifying or chelating shampoo. Hth

^^Thanks!

Do you find that Wen gets your hair clean? I mean, after you finish washing with it, does your hair feel like it's been CLEANSED? Or, do you still feel like your hair or scalp has buildup?? (ie. waxy white substance on scalp, greasy hair....:look:) :perplexed

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I use a sulfate-free shampoo (Giovanni Deep Moisture) once a week (followed by a DC) and my hair is doing fine.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I only do WnG's, and I use gel a Lot. I use cleansing conditioners, and they clean the hair very well. I've only needed to clarify once this year. :yep:

I like both right now my favs are CON Argan oil poo (extremely moisturizing) and Wen 613 it gets my hair very clean while leaving it well nourished and soft (it also smells amazing)

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

i can't soley co-wash....its like a refresher for me in the summertime. i prefer to see suds. my scalp didn't feel clean from soley trying the co-wash method though my hair felt fine. in a 10-14 day period during the summer i might cowash 3-4 times and shampoo least 1-2 times.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I cowash with regular conditioners. I have tried cleansing conditioners and I like them a lot and felt they cleaned my hair well, but theyre just not cost effective for me. I have tons of hair and cowash maybe 3 times per week. If I could get huge amounts for low prices I would use them regularly

I use a sulfate free shampoo once a week. I don't really consider my cowashes to be cleansing, but conditioning in between shampoos.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I have been doing very well with clarifying conditioners (yep, the cheapies) followed by decent (i.e. moderately priced) conditioners or leave-ins. I think I might only be shampooing about twice a month lately. Since I started my transition, I have noticed that my scalp tends to be more dry, even with sulfate-free shampoos, so the less 'poo, the better for this head!

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I use a cleanser every week and only use a shampoo once a month. I do not do wash-n-go's (I am relaxed) but I do use gel almost every day to smooth my buns, and my Hair One Sweet Almond Oil Cleansing Conditioner is enough to get the gunk out.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I dont find cowashing or cleansing conditioners to be effective enough at getting rid of gels or gunky styling products so i just eliminated those styling products from regular use. I only use conditioner and styling products that can easily be rinsed out.

If i do use a sulfate shampoo is from using a gunky product. For me its the only way to get it completely out. That is really the only time i shampoo when i think about it. I have no set schedule.

I am Dying to have this #FWP in my life...cannot Wait!

For me,it depends on what my hair/scalp needs at that moment..Sometimes I can do a cleansing cream, other times I get out the sulphate free poo/detox poo & give my hair the squeaky clean wash it needs..

Happy Hair Growing!

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I tried As I AM Coconut Cleansing Pudding last week - it's just fantastic! It's much gentler than regular shampoo, but it cleaned my hair and scalp unbelieveably well. Almost to the point of clarifying. I followed with As I Am Coconut Co-Wash. Also very cleansing, but not stripping. I was a bit disappointed because i could not use the co-wash as a leave-in because it's purpose is to clean your hair, and it does.

I'm looking for an all purpose product, so I'm going to try the Loreal EverCreme Co-wash (Sulfate free line) this weekend. And I have the Wen 613 lined up for the following weekend. I want one all purpose product for 2013.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

i like the as i am coco cowash. good product. cleans my hair well.

however right now I use the shea moist purification masque and giovanni's wellness conditioner as my "cleansers". they clean my hair really well. no build up and they are natural products. the wellness cond has botanicals in it and makes my scalp tingle. i also use an acv rinse as my final rinse to get the rest of the gunk out and restore my ph balance after cleansing and deep conditioning.

this has been working for me. i used to use natural shampoos and shampoo bars. they were okay but my hair always felt really dry after. then i started off with as i am coco co wash and my hair loved the change.

I like both my favs are Wen as a cleansing condish and Shea Moisture moisture retention shampoo as a sulfate free poo

I love both of these products. I have only been using Wen when stretching my texturizer.

ETA: I am 9 weeks post relaxer. I will use Wen weekly until I relax. I love the manageability. I wont use Shea Moisture again until after I relax.

Crystalicequeen123 when I use wen cleansing conditioner I feel like I just regular cowashed, I don't feel like it cleansed my scalp but I don't feel buildup either but I assume it does buildup because of the cones

I use heavy sealers so I vote for SLS free shampoo, keeping my scalp clean is very important for me.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I'm camp I alternate between cleansers and shampoo, but I use shampoo the most.

I really try to focus the shampoo on my scalp and the cream cleanser on my hair. Unfortunately cream cleansers doesn't actually do much for my scalp but it works wonders on my hair. All of my shampoos are sulfate free.

I generally don't do WnG because my hair always ends up tangled and dry (I may do it as a style option, but not for hair care).

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I use Conditioner(s) and Cleansing Cremes on a Regular. So I Voted #1

Basically, the only time I use "shampoo" is to Neutralize after relaxing and the 1st wash post relaxer.

Most wash days are strictly conditioners and to remove any heavy build up a good cleansing conditioner or Shea Moisture Purification Hair Mask (used as a cowash - instead of a Mask).

With the nice variety of Cleansing Conditioners out there, I never think about shampoo. Nor do I miss "Lather".

All of my final rinses are a ACV blend, so I feel the combo works well for me and cleans my hair sufficiently.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I have reg shampoo, sulfate free and I also have WEN. I feel like I need reg shampoo to clean my hair. I'll clean my hair using ORS Creamy Aloe, then use my Elasta QP Creme Conditioning. I mostly use WEN for moisture, not to clean. If I'm cowashing I have to use WEN with a V05 so my hair feels "clean." I still have a lot of WEN but when I use it up I won't repurchase.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

I've just started using the cleansers and I like them. I have Naturelle Grow Lemon Mint Detox and Hairveda Amala Creme Rinse. They both clean very well. I think the NG cleans slightly deeper than the Hairveda. I don't have a problem with my scalp, but just for good measure, I throw in a shampoo with Elasta QP Creme Conditioning (sulfate free) every 4 - 6 weeks.

I'm more of a shampoo girl! I have cleansing cremes and they are good but I love a good moisturizing shampoo. It just fels good on my scalp and hair...

I use all NaturelleGrow Cleansing Creams. The Apple Cider Vinegar (pH balancing) is my absolute favorite.

I also have shikakai soap.

Re: Cleansers/Cream Co-washers VS. Regular Sulfate-Free Shampoos--Which do you Prefer

What leiah said. I would love to try WEN, but with all my hair coupled with frequent use, the cost would be bananas. I use shampoo every 2 weeks and cw with regular conditioners the rest of the time, followed by a diluted ACV rinse. I also DCW or cw with a dc then use a regular conditioner as my rinse out. I also use regular conditioners as leave-ins. There wasnt an option for alladat, lol. I just chose option 2.

I cw 2-4 times a week. I buy liter bottles of conditioner at a time. Shampoo lasts me a while since I only shampoo the scalp, and let run-off cleanse the length. I also dilute my shampoo a lot to get gentler cleansing (most have sulfates, but no detriment to my hair). I use a half-dollar sized amt diluted in 8 oz. water. So shampoo lasts a long time, but conditioner I run through.
