If I understand correctly, it's using oils to seal in moisture at the end of your regimen? How exactly do you do it? What do you use? I was using oil sheen (KeraCare) while my hair was in braids, but now that my hair is free, I am not sure what to do/use. Any ideas/thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated.

And while I've got you here, how do I know if my hair needs more moisture or protein?

Thank you all, this site has been a Godsend!

You better use natural oils like Olive, Coconut and Avocado oils to seal your hair. There is a whole thread about moisture and protein balance, try the search feature to find it ... HTH :)

To seal, pour a little bit of oil onto your hands and rub your hands together to spread the oil. Then rub your hands down the last few inches of hair, concentrating on your ends. That's it :)

An easy way to check protein/moisture is to take a strand of wet hair (one that came out during the detangling process, don't just pull hair outta your head  ) and pull it. If it breaks without any stretching, you need moisture. If it stretches a lot and then breaks, you need more moisture. If it stretches a little bit before breaking, keep doin what you're doin ;)

I don't really believe in "sealing". Its not like a caulk seal on your hair. But I do really like to put on oils on my hair. Stick to oils that can penetrate your hair like olive oil, grapeseed oil, avocado oil etc
