I'm sitting here trying to re-organize my hair stuff and I have a drawer full of bandannas. In the summer time, I LOVE to wear bandannas. I have a variety of colors that go with many outfits. I don't think I can bare to throw them all away. Do you think it's okay to keep them as long as I don't sleep in them?

Does anyone else have cotton scarves?

Just a little sad at the possibility of having to give up my scarves........... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Uggggghhhhhh /images/graemlins/barf.gif Cotton Scarves? Diviine??? /images/graemlins/nono.gif I would say throw them away. You can find many different hair accesories that would match your outfits that would be much kinder to your tresses /images/graemlins/kiss.gif Pack them away, please and get rid of them. They'll do nothing but suck the moisture from your hair, doesn't matter what time of day it is /images/graemlins/look.gif

No you didn't throw up at my scarves!!!! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

At any rate, I don't have as many as I thought I did anymore....don't know what happened to them but oh well...I guess it's all for the best.....

So when summer time comes, I'm going to need some examples of different styles I can do. I always see pretty barrettes and things but not really sure if they would look good in my hair....I'll be knocking at your cyberdoor.........Believe that! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Caramela is right. They'll just suck the moisture right out of your hair. You don't want that now do you? /images/graemlins/naughty.gif

This might be a hassle but I have two options so that you don't have to throw your scarves away:

1. If you can find someone who knows how to sew, just so some silk or satin material on the underside of the cotton bandanna (the part that touches your head).

2. Or cut a piece of silk material the same shape as your bandanna, tie that on your head first, then tie your scarf over. That's what I do because I can't sew, and I don't know anyone who does sew.

HTH

edited to add: I also do this when I wear my head wraps, silk goes on first, then headwrap over that. I've had NO issues with dryness this way. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well, my bf's mom can sew. She makes her own curtains and all. Maybe I can get her to make me some bandannas. Either that or she can teach ne. I'm not the best sewer (is that a word?) but I would love to learn to sew better as well as knit and crochet.

Mmmmm There's a niche in the market. /images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif For women like us who care about our hair where is the protective headwear that suitable to wear outside when we can't be bothered to do our hair???? /images/graemlins/confused.gif

I used to just fling on the bandana, but since I've got so into my hair they remain in my drawer and under no circumstances do they go directly on my hair.

If I can't do my hair I have to put on the satin doo rag and then put a hat on or something.

I did the same sort of thing. I stole a few silk scarves from my mom and use them underneath the doo rag. Most of them are quite small so I just lay them over my hair and wear my doo rag over my head

I am also a bandanna girl and I have tried to get a few silk ones but I really do prefer the cotton ones. Most silk ones look momsy unless they have some sort of designer label (and my pocket can only stretch a little:)). I wear two bandanas, one silk inside and the cotton one outside. Most people think it's some sort of style statement, but it's realy me being cheap /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL
I wear a cotton scarf during the fast half of air drying my hair because it absorbs some the moisture. Is this bad? I don't sleep on it or lay down. I wear for 2-3 hours tops...

Please don't reply with throw-uppy emoticons! That was too funny! /images/graemlins/rofl.gif

I knew a girl who grew her hair out VERY long and she slept in a cotton scar every night. The thing was to get her hair in a position where it isn't going to move and then put the scarf on. If your hair is loose (like when wearing a bonnett), then I would say satin is your best bet.

Sassygirl.....can I just tell you how much I am LOVINGthat new pic in your signature. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Is that Pam Grier?

That is a fabulous pic....she looks good there..and so does her fro!!!!

Yes that is Pam "The Icon" Grier. A moment of silence, please... /images/graemlins/notworthy.gif
I was just telling hairfanatic that I watched Coffy, Black Mama-White Mama and The Big Doll House yesterday and went into "Pam Overload"! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Sassy,

I have a real fear of anything cotton near my head. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif There are a lot of people who can use them and experience no problems. I'm not one of them. I prefer to use satin or silk. If it doesn't harm your hair in anyway, then I would say you are safe. /images/graemlins/smile.gif (see, I didn't use any throw-uppy emoticons. /images/graemlins/grin.gif)

Thanks Pebbles
My hairline hasn't been doing so great since I started wearing my hair pulled back 99.9% of the time. I think I'm going to ditch the cotton bandanas for air drying...

i wear a durag or satin cap under my bandana's! im a "bandana whore" i CANNOT live without em!! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't think my hair can take anything cotton. /images/graemlins/nono.gif Cotton seems to eat my hair totally out, but silk scarfs definately work for me. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
