what hair type I have ex:4a etc?

To tell you your hair type, you need to post a picture of your hair. It has to be in it's natural state (no relaxer) and it's best if it's dry with no products. From the picture we can tell you how kinky or how tight/loose your curls are....

@Luckyladyj, I see you're new here. Hair type has to do with the natural pattern of the strands of your hair when it is free of any chemical processing. If your hair is relaxed, we would have no idea what your hair type is because your hair is straightened. Similarly, heat straightened hair would be hard to type.

Type 1 is straight.

Type 2 is wavy. 2A big waves; 2B small waves.

Type 3 is big curls. 3A being the biggest, 3B medium, 3C the smallest.

Type 4 is tight curls/coils. 4A coils being bigger than 4B.

But there are threads that were started a few years ago that have people posting hairtypes that correspond to the title of the thread. They may help you see the differences. But first don't look at the mixes. They are confusing. Look at the pure ones first... 4A, 4B, 3C, 3B...and so on. You may recognize your hair's characteristics in one of these threads. I think that's the best way to know what type of hair you have since hair acts and looks differently depending on what you did to it. So by looking at the way people's hair looks when wet, when combed, when moisturized, etc....you might recognize characteristics you have seen in your own natural hair and thus know where you belong.

What you won't see a lot of here is type 2 hair which is wavy:

ETA: Along with type, there's also texture which has to do with the thickness or thinness of strands. Coarse strands are thicker than fine strands. Then there's also density. If you have many strands on your head, you have more density and hence thicker hair. When you have fewer strands, you have less hair/density so thin hair.

Knowing your type and texture won't necessarily help you know what products will work for you, but it may at least help you know what certain styles will look like on your hair, so you don't do a wash and go on 4B hair and expect it to look like a WNG on 4A or 3C hair.
