Who out there has ended their transition by relaxing?

How far were you into your transition (in terms of months, weeks, years, etc.)?

What made you finally relax?

Why didn't you BC?

Do you have any regrets?

TIA!

I always end my transition at 6 months. This time I hope to go all the way. Considering I am bsl I wouldn't dare do a BC thats too much work to grow it longer again. I think this time I will transition totally because I do my own hair myself and will no longer have a stylist whispering " perm it before it breaks off" in my ear.

I transitioned for 2yrs and one day I justed couldn't take it any more. I have very thick hair and I just couldn't do the Big Chop. I did relax and it was o.k. until a few months ago. I'm transitioning again with the help of my hair stylist and the ladies here. Am I sorry I relaxed again...absolutly. There is no telling were I would be today if I had left it alone. Now I'm back to square one.

Who out there has ended their transition by relaxing? I did! I tried on and off for about 7 years until I got it right. It was always so hard. Mostly because there were no forums or support groups to help me along the way.

How far were you into your transition (in terms of months, weeks, years, etc.)? The most I ever made it was 4 months till I gave up.

What made you finally relax? The pressure. I looked like crap, I was single, wasn't trying to look funky at the club LOL

Why didn't you BC? I always hated shorted hair on myself. The THOUGHT of having short hair made me anxious.

Do you have any regrets? Yes!!!! If I had transitioned and not given up back in 2000 I would have waist length hair by now! I am so glad I stopped relaxing in 2006 and went online to get help. Plus I got married in 2004 to a person that understood and loved me, short hair and all. Relaxers are ok for some people, for my own hair it just wasn't an option anymore. I love my natural hair and I am very very happy now.

HTH!! :drunk:

How far were you into your transition (in terms of months, weeks, years, etc.)? I stopped relaxing on June 2007 but relaxed in April 2008, so I was about 9 months in my transition.

What made you finally relax? I couldn't take to two textures anymore,
my hair is super thick and I don't like puffy hair. I like the way relaxers make my hair look (straight and with body)

Why didn't you BC? I didn't want short hair

Do you have any regrets? Yes and No. I love my natural hair but it takes a long time to style and they don't even last that long (thanks to humidity). I don't really care when I get an relaxer, because my hair feels 'stripped' and that annoys the heck out of me, but it looks good straight. If there was an natural alternative that can make my hair looked relax without reversion until I wash it out, I'll stay natural, but I can't find any, so I'll stay relaxed until my 30's. In my 40's, I'll transition again.

What made you finally relax? I missed having straight hair and flat ironing wasn't going to cut it for me. Also, working with the two textures was starting to get to me.

Why didn't you BC? Because part of me wanted to hold out to make sure I really wanted to go natural. I wanted to hold on my relaxed end so that if I did change my mind, I would still have my relaxed hair and still achieve my hair goals. I know if I BC'd, I would've regretted it.

Do you have any regrets? Nope!:)

thanks for the replies, y'all!

chinadoll, you hit the nail on the head when you said "I love my natural hair but it takes a long time to style and they don't even last that long..."

Though I'm not completely natural...*sigh*

PS-I know there are more of you out there. :yep: Stop lurking and respond :whip:

I haven't YET. I'm trying the hardest to keep going, but I'm really getting frustrated. I don't know why the heck my hair takes so loooonnnnnggggg to style, and it looks really dry. I think it's drinking my moisturizers. The other thing that I totally hate is the fact that my hair looks to be SL when it's so much closer to BSL. I totally surprised this guy that I'm dating when I stretched it. He had no idea. lmao I would like it to be like that all the time though.

I think I'm going to get a straw set just so I don't have to deal with it for a few days, or maybe in some cornrows with a bun in the back. This is probably the reason why I'm always in a weave, so I don't have to deal with my hair. :ohwell: That's kinda sad.

How far were you into your transition (in terms of months, weeks, years, etc.)? I was about 3-4 months in.

What made you finally relax? I didn't like dealing with two different textures. I would have had to straighten my hair all the time to make it flat and lay nicely, which wouldn't last- I like my hair straight. I got tired of looking a mess. After awhile, my hair started looking a mess. It took too much time to do my hair.

Why didn't you BC? I don't think I would look nice with a TWA.

Do you have any regrets? Nope. It just wasn't the right time for me to go natural.

I don't know the exact time because I stopped relaxing way before I found the hair boards, but it's close to 2 years.

Thanks for the sweet compliment. I'll feel so bad if I relax because I absolutely love the thickness of my hair, and the texture but it overwhelms me sometimes.

I will, too, AT FIRST. But I think I will get over it. Mine overwhelms me ALL the time!

Anyone else care to chime in...:look:

What made you finally relax? I was frustrated that I couldn't wear all the styles I wanted to without so much manipulation. All my braidouts and twistouts sucked. Blowouts worked well in the beginning, but then my hair started breaking. I now have quite a few short pieces in my hair. :wallbash: The only thing that worked, without causing me heartache, was bunning, and I got tired of that. I just don't think I was mentally ready.

Why didn't you BC? :nono: Been growing my hair too long to cut it all off. And knowing me, I'd be ready to cut somebody if I couldn't figure out what to do with my newly short hair.

Do you have any regrets? Sometimes. I miss my NG. I really wanted to see what my natural hair would be like. I plan to try again...one day.

TIA!
