Do tight ponytails slow down hair growth

Can wearing your hair tight delay or slow down hair growth? I have always worn my hair slicked down in the front. If my hair isnt slicked down in ponytail I feel that its will look to messy or get more tangled. Does anyone else wear there hair like this?

I don't know about slowing growth, but it certainly can do a number on the hairline (thinning it out) derailing progress.
