Or is it the wig cap?

Okay so I had on a wig for a few hours yesterday. Granted I was in the sun A LOT (maybe this is the culprit) but my hair was so dry afterwards.:ohwell: I mean, crispaaay and my hair never really have a problem with dryness.

I moisturized this morning and sealed with some oil and it is back to normal.

Which leads me to ask-Is there a certain type of wig cap that I should be using when wearing wigs and half wigs? Or are wigs/wig caps just drying, period? Suggestions on a type/fabric of a wig cap? Should I wear a small scarf under the wig cap?

Note* Baggying is out the question, point blank.

I was wondering this also because I've been looking into getting a wig as well.

I've been considering a lacefront to give my hair a break for a few weeks, but I'm scared of this very problem.

By the way (locs) -I got the S.M. in the mail yesterday. Was too lazy to do my hair though after all that waiting lol. It smells great though. :)

I wore a wig for about 7 or 8 months. I cornrowed, wore a plastic cap, a stocking cap, and then the wig. Back then I remember retaining every inch of hair, no splits, and my hair thrived!:)

I wore a wig for a day and the cap dried my hair OUT. Im assuming it was the cap becuz the wig didnt actually touch my hair - just the cap.

I know someone was talking about silk wig caps which are supposed to be better but I havent found one yet..

Maybe I need to try the silk wig caps. I will buy one online if I need to.

I really want to start wiggin' it.

With wearing the plastic cap all the time, your hair didn't get overmoisturized? Because right about now, this sounds like a plan!

No I've been wearing my since December and my hair stays moisturized. When I first used the wig cap it dried my hair bad. So I don't use them.

Hopefully the silk caps will help. A wig is sounding better and better..

What kind of wig cap was it? If it's the stocking kind they give you to try the wig on in the store then yeah it'll dry your hair out. It's cotton If I'm not mistaken. I generally don't wear wig caps. Never liked them. It isn't really a problem for me because my hair is short. The satin one is a good idea though.

Hey locks! Couldn't you just use a satin sleep cap like they have at Wal=mart instead of ordering online?:look:

That's what I used to wear, but mostly I just go without now. Since I baggie in the vening/overnight, I like the idea of my hair having a chance to dry (not dry out) before applying my evening porducts.

you can use those doo-rags dudes wear or the wave caps...they fit snug against your head and are super cheap.

Wouldn't baggying under that wig be super hot. I mean whew!!!! I bought the mesh cap, but only wore it for a few hours. Could someone post a picture of a satin cap.

Keep that moisture/protein balance was always the priorty, even moreso when I was on that regimen. But as long as you let it breathe as soon as you get home and over night, then you should be fine. Plus I washed at least 2x a week, 3x when it was hot, so the hair was clean and well kept. Try it. ;)

On the days when I knew I would be out all day like 16 hours or so, I would do a satin scarf...but it did not work as effectively as the cap, cause it kept sliding. But the scarf is another option if the cap makes your scalp sweat.

Yeah it was a cotton one. You don't use nothing at all?

My head is rather....large.:look: Would it be too bulky?

I was thinking of those too!

How are you wearing your hair under the wig cap (whatever you use) I have only wore mine once, and I had it in a bun.

Definitely use a nylon wig cap vs. cotton! The only issue that i have run into is too much oil on my braids under the cap. The oil transferred to the remy hair on my LF and made that hair oily. Not a good look. I love my Lacefronts (thats not one in my avatar).

I wear it in a big dookie twist pinned up in the back.

Can anyone tell my where I can find the satin wig caps?

Atlien, where do you get your nylon from?

Okay, so what is the difference between a 1/2 wig and a full cap. How do you apply the 1/2 wig.

You apply the 1/2 wig just like a regular one except it covers about 3/4s of your head. So I applied the wig cap to that area. The part that was exposed wasn't dry. Just the part that was under the wig.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I'm looking at getting a wig in a few weeks to wear to work so that I can start hitting the gym without worrying about my hair looking crazy at work the next day. I was gonna wear cornrows under the wig and CW each night - protein weekly - and juss wearing the wig cap during the day. But maybe I should do what LadyEsquire did. Any suggestions?

Thanks Locks....I am learning to appreciate weave. Its addicting!!!!!

I know man! I am about to order some more wigs. I like it!

Locks, I think the "bulk" would be more from your hair than the satin cap! :)
