I have some castor oil thats been sitting here for about 7-9 months, in a plastic bottle. I want to use it up and in fact smothered my ponytail and edges in it before I went to bed (i'm cowashing this morning soon). Anyway, it has a smell to it and I want to make sure its ok. Not really rancid, but it does stink. Does yours?

castor oil does have a distinct scent but I would say it stinks

I havent used any in a while...but when i was little it was my grandmothers cure for any and every illness and everytime she tried to make me swallow some, i remember yelling "it stinks granny!!" so yea...definitely a very distinct smell! :)

:yep:

to me it does, it's faint but distinctive even the "fresh" stuff. i prolly have an overly sensitive nose for castor oil though.

that's why i was a little nervous when i shelled out the $$ for qhem's products but she mixes the scent away  and her stuff smells fine.

essential oils are your friend Bre-Bre. a few drops and all's well.

I think it stinks sort of...I have the Edgar Cayce Cold Press Castor Oil and I don't like the smell of it really. I use it for oil rinses or will use it the night before a wash, but not as a daily leave in because of the smell. The bottle smelled this way when I first opened and used it and it was sealed and everything, so it hadn't gone bad. I don't know if it goes rancid though. I guess u could mix it with something to cover the smell though.

Yes, I agree with Val - the smell is "distinct". LOL.

Hi Twisties :) Yeah, i have about 14 ounces here that I need to use up so i slathered it on last night and went to bed. It's very thick. I may just start using this every night and cowash in the morning.

To me it always smells like peanuts, or various stypes of nuts blended together. Its not a bad smell per say, but not something I like to smell coming from my hair all day. I remember I bought a large bottle when I first read raves about it on this board. But after using it a couple of times, I could not get past that smell.

Yeah, I got schooled last night :lachen: No, i didn't do twists yet. I fell asleep on the couch and woke up at like 1:30 this morning. I am going to cowash this morning and probably cowash again this evening then twist up:grin:
