So I straightened my hair last friday and coming up on a week my scalp is getting kind of tender.

It's not itchy at all, but sometimes it starts feeling tender and sensitive when it's time to wash. I'm going to a friend's graduation tomorrow, and she hasn't seen my hair yet so I wanted to keep the straight look goin.

I'd read about dry shampoos in mags like cosmo and self but they seemed geared towards caucasian hair types. In an act of desperation I hit up Sally's last night to check them out. They didn't have much of a selection, so I ended up with this one:

Batiste Blush Dry Shampoo

When I sprayed it it came out like fine white powder. I went through, concentrating on my roots, and then did a fine mist throughout my length and massaged it in. I left it on while I finished washing my face and stuff, then massaged a bit more and proceeded to brush it out.

My hair felt clean, it smelled fresh, it was shiny with lots of volume and it definitely helped my scalp. My scalp isn't as clean as it would be with reg shampoo, or water, but it's a big improvement.

I'm starting to think this might become a part of my routine when I straighten. Then I can get 2wks out of a press the way some of you guys do! When working out I might experiment with spraying my roots, and then putting my hair in a high pony ( so the outside layers cover the white powder) and then brush it out when I finish. If it absorbs the sweat before it reverts the roots I could keep a straight style for as long as I wanted.

Anyone else try one of these?

I was thinking about trying the Oscar Blandi kind in the bottle. Some Caucasian ladies put in on their roots after a workout then blow out only the roots, but I wonder if the powder would leave dark hair looking "dusty." This would be perfect to make a press last.

The whiteness seemed to disappear after a few minutes, and once I brushed you couldn't tell at all.

The sales rep at Sally's said sometimes she uses baby powder, but that seemed like it could get messy.

I use the dry shampoo from Ojon...what you describe is exactly what I am doing to stretch my presses to two weeks without having the scratch all the time. Good luck!

I have tried ORS dry shampoo, but only on the scalp while in braids. It work pretty well, ran off the itchies. I have never try to press after. IMO, it is product and I wouldn't try to press. You may want to try in a small section first.

Bumping. Im using Biosilk Dry Shampoo to stretch my presses, I want to get feedback from others who are using dry shampoo.

Ojon's the only one that doesn't leave my hair all "snowy". Not sure about pressing it in though. Sounds risky. I wouldn't try it.

ORS dry shampoo is liquid, I don't think that one counts here. I got all excited for a minute.
