I am learning so much from this site and I am truly happy about that. I have really been evaluating my eating habits as well as my hair care routing. Does anyone what effects caffeine has on hair, if any?

I've read that caffiene can slow down your growth rate.

I take in alot of caffeine daily. I think it may be time eliminate it all together. The reason I asked the question was due to a nurse telling me when she tried to do a blood draw on me that my blood was clotting before it went into the tube. She asked me a lot of questions and the doc determined that my high caffeine intake was more than likely the issue. I was just wondering if that could cause dryness in my hair as well.

Caffeine, when used directly on the scalp, boosts your hair's growing phase. It also retards shedding.

HTH!
I am really new to this site so forgive me if I am asking an question with an obvious answer.......What products would I apply directly to my scalp contain caffeine?

If you do a search on "tea rinse" you'll find info and testimonials. HTH
from your experience is there any particular tea that works better? I am so fascinated by everything that I am learning on this board!!!:yep:

I haven't done any tea rinses, so I can't give you a recommendation. I remember that the types of teas were discussed in the tea rinse thread.

Thanks for having me look that up!!! I learned alot. I am going to try a tea rinse with my good old Lipton this weekend.:yep:

Coffee, plain brewed coffee (not instant) makes an excellent leave-in for the hair. I refrigerate old coffee, let it warm-up to room temp and then use as a leave in, concentrating on my scalp. It is invigorating and works -Dramatically.

Do you dilute it at all or add anything to it?

I know I'm bumping up an old thread but I brought this up because of results that I have had this past year and I did not feel like making a new thread.

Before say fall of 2008 I rarely ever drank coffee in fact I think it had been years since I drank coffee to that point. Well I have been drinking at least 20oz. of 7-11 regular coffee a day and I must say that my hair growth increased. Now I get about 1/2 inch a month compared to maybe 1/4 or a little more a month.

I think it may have to do with stimulating properties of caffeine. I remember reading in a cosmetology book to tell clients not to drink too much caffeinated beverages before a chemical appoint like color or relaxer. Well this is because your scalp is made more sensitive due to blood flow.

I was thinking this may be it. Increased circulation helps this is why many people on here had more growth when they worked out because of increased circulation.

I have also read articles saying it helps growth and then some saying it hinders growth so I guess it just depends on the person and their body chemistry. But it has worked for me.

I do not dilute. I apply it straight to my scalp.

Observation:
I coffee-rinsed this weekend and I've had maybe 20 hairs to shed since washing and flat ironing my hair on Saturday. I've been wrapping my hair every night.

Okay, okay maybe 30.
Tops.

Do you dilute it at all or add anything to it?
