What grocery store products are you using on your hair that work better than commercial products? How so?

I been surfing around the www and found that people are using more grocery store items than BSS products. Mayo, rice water, yogurt, bananas, eggs, onions, honey and the list goes on.

I am an avid tea rinser and it stops shedding like nothing else.

ACV is a great cleanser for the scalp when cowashing! I used to not understand why everyone loved cowashing because by week two I always had scalp buildup. Using ACV once every 2 to 3 weeks keeps my scalp happy.

Almond oil is the truth for me. Not other commercial oil can moisturize my hair as well. I love that I can use it on my skin as well.

Garlic helped me with my shedding.

Kinda OT but still "hair" lol. Castor Oil: this is very good too. But I am not using this more for my eyelashes and they are growing so thick.

I like to mix a ripe avocado, ripe banana, raw organic honey, avj and ceramide oils.

Food Items:
Oils (EVOO, EVCO, etc...)
Teas
Coffee
Agave Nectar (occasionally)
Coconut Water/Coconut Milk
Braggs ACV
Salt (to darken Indigo)

Beyond oils...nada. I've tried it all & have learned that if I don't want to waste my time or my food that I betta eat it instead of puttin it on my head. I've spent so much money trying to force food based formulations to work & they just don't for my hair.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I am not gong to lie. One of the BEST DCs I used was homemade. It had melted Shea butter, ripe avocado, olive oil, and coconut milk. It made my hair super soft. I used it for moisture.

I've also mixed yogurt with the Shea Moisture Anti-Breakage mask as a protein treatment with good results as well.

Oh and ACV to rinse.

Yes ma'am, SALT!!! That is a staple in my regi.

I also like:
Full fat plain yogurt
Honey
Banana (baby food)
Egg
EVOO, Safflower and Grapeseed oils

I used to use cayenne pepper powder (in my scalp oil). Don't know if it worked but it definitely increased scalp stimulation

I like oils, and I will use honey if it is in a premade formulation.

I only eat my raw honey or put it on an occasional cooking burn, I never use it in my hair anymore.

Whipped egg white as a protein DC worked to fix my moisture overload when commercial products did nothing, "too big" molecules or not.

is this good for moisture or protein or both?

I used it for protein because I always followed it with a moisturizing DC.

I also forgot that my last batch included goats milk and coconut milk.

I love coconut milk

I also use olive oil, honey, eggs, yogurt, banana (Gerber baby food), avocado, and mayonnaise.

I'm adding FLAX SEED to the list, i just made some flax seed gel last night because I want to see if would hold as well as the traditional gels and if it would make my natural hair shine.

I'm impressed!

PLEASE tell me what you did. I co-washed for a month and by the end of the fourth week my hair looked fan-freaking-tastic, BUT scalp was screaming. It took 2 weeks for my scalp to recover.
