I love my Hemp seed butter but the smell is a little too much for me.
I want to continue using it but I'd like to cover up the smell.

I guess the closes butter to hemp seed would be Shea, so I would imagine anything that would cover the Shea smell would to the same for Hemp seed.

Any suggestions??

I use orange, sometimes lemon essential oils because I prefer citrusy scents.

If you don't mind minty smells, anything in the mint family smells pretty strong. Peppermint, eucalyptus, rosemary or lavender (would be the mildest but I'm allergic) essential oils do fairly well at covering an underlying smell.

I'd try bergamot, jasmine, lemongrass, lemon or orange. I've never smelled hemp seed butter but if it's a musty scent, try something fresh, green and lemony for freshness.

I like to mix orange and lemongrass oils. I used that for wheat germ oil

Also I like mango and lime mix... delicious! I add it in my leave ins.

back in the day I would put vanilla in my shea butter... I miss this. I may bring it back for the spring.

Awesome!!

Do you find that the oil completely covers the butter smell?

Yes is did! I would melt the butter and put a lot of the oil in there, I always got a lot of complements.

And the essential oil and frangrance oil vials I get are like $2 at clarks nutrional stores near me so I have no issue using them generously

I was experimenting with this last week. I tried eucalyptus oil - it was just ok. After a while, the two scents (hemp and eucalyptus) made me nauseous while mixing. But the smell did die down after it settled. I have a really sensitive nose, so a lot of smells don't agree with me. Now, lavender oil covered the hemp oil smell nicely...but be careful to just use a little, because lavender oil is very pungent. I am planning on buying cinnamon oil and pink grapefruit oil from WF to try that out as well. HTH!

Wow, didn't know there was a lemongrass EO. I have to try that next time! I was thinking about using vanilla as well...

yes i also love citrus sents to add to my shea butter. i dont lmnd the smell of hemp oil/butter, but my bf hates it so I also add eithe lemongrass ylang ylang or citrus blends to it.

the extent of coverage just depends on how much oil u add. i dont normally need to ad more than say 10-15 drops to 8oz

So I bought a set of six essential oils from Edens Garden, I bought the set with citrus flavors and it smelled like heaven... I melted my butter, poured in a good amount of oil and let it solidify, I applied the butter to my hair and I was smelling like a basket of limes :lick: until I walked out the door and the smell was completely gone.

I bought the therapeutic grade oil, is that different from any other type of essential oil or is it all the same? The oil's sent completely dissipated and now all I smell is hemp :barf:
