So. Last night I washed my hair and set it on flexi rods for the first time. I twisted the rod as close to the root as I could (as instructed in STRANDZ fotki).

I am 10 weeks post relaxer and my New Growth is very present...it's nice and soft but thick and it's taking over my head. I'm on a NO direct heat regimen for a few months. I tried to put on a thin headband but my SUPERhair laughed a hearty laugh, Huh, Huh, Huh!

1. These curls seem too tight. are they supposed to be like this?
2. Does this look right to ya'll?
3. I think the back is pretty but the front & sides are poofy and crazy. What can I do with these roots?

Here's the pic. Any tips, suggestions are welcome.

Looks great to me!!!;) But maybe next time divide the front in smaller sections (use more rods in the front). Also I usually put some type of oil on my finger tips and pull the curls apart so it will look fuller. The oil on my finger tips helps my hair not to look frizzy. HTH.

Okay, I went into *Hater* mode and now I'm back and ready to comment. I was hating becuase your rods came about gorgeous! I think flexis, spirals wet sets etc. are excellent ways to hide your new growth. They even look better as they get old because they start to fall a little and get that wild / stylish look.

When I take my rods/rollers out, I usually put some pomade or oil or something on my fingers and start pulling apart my locs. Don't comb it, just pull them apart as you spiral the pieces in the direction their curled. You'll start to notice more volume. While doing this, you can manipulate the style. For example, when my hair is like this, I usually pull the front pieces to the back (over my crown) and hide a few bobby pins in it as I either twist the front or make a hump then I pull the strands back down over the pins. This way, they still hang but not touch my forehead or face.

As you sleep on them more or as the curls start to fall, you can freshen up the style doing a loose pin up in the back and keeping some spirals on the sides and front.

Your hair is wayyyy longer than mine so I know you can do some wicked things with those gorgeous curls. You did a good job curling too!

I think it looks WONDERFUL! Great job! Even if you didn't do another thing to it...it would still be awesome.

The curls look good to me! I would separate them more but that is about it. My sets look better on the 2nd and 3rd day. If I decide I want to speed up the process to make the curls fall faster, I take my blowdryer on cool and lightly blow my hair. Great Job!

You did a great job!

You can use bigger rods if you don't want curls that tight. I do.:) I also pull my curls apart so this is the end result

I think you did a great job! If my first set looks half as good as yours, I will feel really accomplished!

Wow, you did a great job.:) I wish I could get mind to look like that.

I'm with you, I think they look great!:) Your roots don't look puffy at all. I just can't seem to get the tension right; either I roll them too tight (which makes my scalp hurt:mad: ), or they wind up too loose and don't form a tight curl.

your hair looks very pretty. do you have step by step details on how you did it?
Thanks. I don't have a step by step but I did take a picture of my head with all the rods in it, that photo will be in my photki by the end of this month.

what size (color) rods did you use?
I don't know the exact sizes but I used the Purple ones in the back. Those are about a 1"diameter and on the top & sides I used the small hot pink ones. I think those are about .5" diameter.

I'm sitting at my desk separating these even more. Thank you all my LHCF sisters for your input & suggestions. I think I will have to get another pack of the big purple ones and use them all over my head.

Dang. I'm going swiming this weekend so I'm going to have to braid it up tonight. I won't be aboe to see the full results of this flexi set.

Well. At least now I know that I can do it, I'll tweak it a little next time.

Thanks for all the comments.

You did a great job! I would just use clips to accesorize it. Like put up part of it in the very front w/ a pretty clip. That's how I wear my hair when I've made it curly lately.

I'm jealous :p
