Questions:

1) Does it help only with split ends or does it also help prevent your ends from breaking off?

2) What brand do you use (sans mineral oil)?

I havent tried castor oil on the ends yet... but from my understanding, it helps to thicken the hair, not to repair split ends.

I mean, essentially, any oil used to seal the ends will help to protect them from breakage.... but I think that when folks use castor oil, they are applying it to the scalp and length. I think that if anything, the new growth will be thicker and perhaps the hair shaft will thicken as well....?

I dunno.... Im speaking based on what Ive read, but this information may or may not be accurate. I will wait for other replies as well, because I am also interested.

I love castor oil. I don't know much about repairing actual split ends, I think trimming might be best for that. However, I love to put castor oil on dry hair to fix my ends up a little. I find it makes them look thicker. It almost like putting grease on them but better IMO. I have used castor oil from the health food store, but now I use a brand from Wal-Mart called Humco because it's so inexpensive and I'm always in Wal-Mart anyway sooo...

Lately I have been using a three oil blend that I discovered in the Spanish beauty section at Walgreens called Aceite 3. I absolutely love this! It means Sweet Oil 3, it's a blend of Olive, Sweet Almond , and Castor Oils. It smells so yummy, I want to eat it! :lick:

Oh and I forgot it does definitely help with breakage, a lot of conditioners contain castor oil for this purpose. :yep:

A while back there was an excellent thread that got me started using castor oil where a LHCFer recounted a story where she saw a picture of her mother as a girl standing next to her sister. Her mother had beautiful waist length hair while her sister had broken off ear length hair. Her secret? Her mom used to oil up her hair everynight with castor oil and put it in a braid. That was enough for me to start me off on my merrily on my castor oil way! It's been a match made in heaven ever since!

Pretty much but it thickens my hari the most. For split ends I use nasabb shea butter.

Why haven't I bought mine yet..... As soon as I get some cash I am there. How much does It cost what other brands do you guys use

I love castor oil but I don't use it specifically for spit ends. I notice that it has caused my hairline to thicken up, and my hairline wasn't even thin at all. I mix castor oil and curl activator together in a 1:2 ratio usually. I use The Palma Christi brand which I get for $4.99.

thanks for the replies ladies! I guess I am looking for something for breakage. Does the castor oil you get from the Whole Foods store smell? Or is it heavy?

Great info! Off to WalGreens I go!! I've heard of Aceite oil before...i will try this as my sealant instead of Hot6. At least it contains castor oil which has vitamin E in it so it should be healthy. How many ounces and what is the cost?

Girl, it is sooo good. I was just at Walgreens where I bought 2 more bottles! It is only $1.49 for 4oz! :woot:

This is how a satisfy my pj cravings by stocking up on favorites. I am able to justify these purchases in my mind because I am simply re-purchasing products that work. :sekret:
