Fearfully Wonderfully Made
I needed a moisturizer for my hair and I thought ORS Shea Butter would be a good one. I have been applying it to my roots, hair shaft, and ends and I feel like it's making my hair hard and difficult to comb through.

What do u use ORS Shea Butter for? As a hair shaft moisturizer, for roots, or for ends? Does it make your hair feel soft or hard?

I need to know whether I should take this back to the store and get something different. What is a good moisturizer for the hair shaft for someone who is transitioning to natural? Would this be a good one - Pantene R&N Daily Oil Cream Moisturizer?

If you are talking about ORS shea butter LOTION that comes in the bottle, I think that stuff is utter crap. Try kemi oyl shea butter pomade or something creamier.

OH NO! It is the hair & scalp lotion!
shocked.gif
I must take it back now!

read the ingredients on labels...it can be a real life saver. personally, i make my own moisturizers (hair butters) or buy from carol's daughter..or use pure shea butter.

what works for one head my not work for another so it will be trial and error in learning which product will work for you the best. for ex..everyone raves about that elasta mango butter..my hair HATES IT..

My hair actually loves it (makes it shiny and soft). its filled with my favorite product: CONES! i believe it has more cones than shea butter. I suggest getting a sample. i got my sample from an Asian BSS.

this is from www.nasabb.com
just a little tip when buying shea butter products..
BUYER BEWARE: FAKE SHEA BUTTER: Hard, green or some awkward color, smells bad, mixed with various ingredients.
TYPES OF SHEA BUTTER: UNREFINED: Pure, straight from nature. REFINED: bleached but has some of it's original components intact. PROCESSED/INDUSTRIALIZED: Stripped of its natural components. Non natural components like hexane is added to yield more shea butter.
It is also expensive.

Sorry about being so negative about the product, but that's how I feel, especially since ORS stuff isn't dirt cheap.

I have never tried the pantene oil moisturizer. I generally tend to shy away from oil based lotions. I stick to either oil or butters lately. Another one that didn't work for me was the dark and lovely naturals cream hairdress. I have the soft and beautiful botanicals light cream moisturizer but it seems to be so-so. Also I use s-curl type products from time to time.

I've tried so many different moisturizers! It's alot of trial and error

Alot of people like to use the profective line on wet hair for moisture. Another product I have sitting around...

You asked about Pantene R&N Daily Oil Cream Moisturizer. I tried this product and it's another water-based product that just made my hair dry. If your hair likes water-based products, then you're probably ok. Otherwise, I'd stick to butter/oil mixes.

Did you read the labels and ask questions about the product before you bought it? What are you using it with? Everything will not work well or with your hair or hair type. Like I've said before, finding what works for YOUR hair will take some trial and error. What works for me might not work for you and vice versa. You can't rely on what works well for soemone else because they aren't you nor do they have your hair.

Also, PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCEH BEFORE YOU BUY ANYMORE PRODUCTS!!! If you do NOT recognize more than half of the ingredients, LEAVE IT IN THE STORE and find out more about the producat if you really want to buy it. It will save you ALOT of time, stress and effort.

hi, me again. Still trying to get the last bit of ORS Shea Butter Lotion out of the little sample bottle the Asian BSS gave me. If your hair is a fan of cones, you may like it. to me, it works like a creamy serum. I understand that you used it on wet hair-- It is much better to use it on dry hair instead. if your hair doesn't like it, can I buy it from you plueeeze
grin.gif

I've used it, it worked at first but later it started making my hair hard....I prefer NTM leave in or Elasta Recovery. Pure shea butter also works well.

I'll take that as a compliment, thank you. You asked what I thought and I told you. However, some days, I wonder if you actually read and comprehend some of the comments that people post to your questions.

By the way, I wasn't yelling at you so much as I was stressing a point. If you don't recognize more than half of the ingredients in something and don't know what they do, put it back on the shelf and leave it in the store.

Also, the combination of products used may make your hair hard as well. Therefore, you may need to lay off of some of them.

I'm trying! I've been doing my own hair (including relaxers when I was permed) since I was 15. Therefore, I read some posts and I'm thinking "that's obvious, what's she asking that for" and I forget that some people are taking care of their hair for the first time. Basically, stuff that's old for me is new for you and others. I'll try to remember that before I jump down your throat.

However, I STILL stand by the suggestion of not buying items if you don't recognize and KNOW more than half of the ingredients in them. I apply this theory to hair products as well as food and other everyday things.

I am wearing braids and I use this on my new growth and it works fine for me. I use it right after I have sprayed my scalp with Surge.

I hated the Pantene Relaxed and Natural Oil Cream Moisturizer. I promptly threw out my bottle when I discovered that it has mineral oil in it. Mineral oil dries my hair out something fierce. Luckily, I didn't pay for this so I didn't lose any money. The shampoo, conditioner and wrap spray are ok though.

How come you can take products back to the shop.that you have already used ?

[/ QUOTE ]

You just can! Just like with any return of purchase. Depending on the shop, they'll refund your money or make u trade it in for a different product to equal the price of that particular product.
smile.gif

I mixed mine with carrot oil and it's okay on my wet hair now. I also use the shea butter alone on my daughter's dry hair.

Ugh... I hate ORS Shea Butter now. I used it for maybe 2 years, just luvin it, then I don't know what happened. It was leaving these small white dots in my hair, I don't know if their product "expires" after a period of time or what, but I didn't bother writing them about it. I think I threw it away. Ever since, I've been struggling to find a good moisturizer for my hair
frown.gif

Well I took the ORS Shea Butter back to the bss and traded it in for some Profectiv RootHealth for my roots. THIS PRODUCT IS GREAT! I also went to Kroger to get Pantene R&N Moisturizer as a hair moisturizer and it is great as well for my hair!
