Would smoothing aloe vera gel onto my edges to make them straight thin them out? Does aloe vera gel clog hair follicles so that the hair doesnt grow? is it healthier for the hair than other gels? Sorry for all the questions...

I think ALOE with other oils maybe a better choice. Aloe alone can be drying. I would mix that with vitamin E oil, carrot oil, and peppermint oil.

I agree...If I use a gel I have to mix it with an oil to counteract the dryness and 'crunchy' you get with gels...

I usually apply the gel and then apply a little oil on top before I use my scarf. I haven't had any crunchiness this way.

When my edges are ACTING UP, I use Elasta QP Glaze.
It's clear (no color residue like brown gels) and a little goes along way.

Sweetcocoa and Henrilou, I am going to try your method when my edges are in need!!! Thanx!
