I'm so sad/disappointed right now. As some of you know, I have tree braids in right now (well, had!) When I first got them put in, it was fine; not too tight or anything. It itched a little, but I expected that. What I didn't expect was for the itching to increase. Day by day, the itching got worse and worse. I got the products mentioned in the care instructions (Fubu hair and scalp spray, Cream of Nature shampoo and Lustrasilk Tea Tree Conditioner). I tried SeaBreeze, Witch Hazel, and Tea Tree Oil and nothing worked. The itching grew to the point of being unbearable, so yesterday I washed it. I followed the directions to the T. (I even took the instructions in the shower with me so I could make sure I was getting it right). After I washed it, the hair looked absolutely beautiful, but underneath my scalp was on fire. It was to the point that I couldn't stand for anything to touch my head. I was miserable. Me and my mom stayed up all last night cutting the hair out of my head (mind you, I only had it for 2 weeks, so I REALLY did not want to do this!) It was so tangled and matted. The hair was wrapped around my hair like a snake! It took from 3:00am until 4:00pm today to get the hair out. In the process, some of my hair was cut. It was so tangled and matted, I had no choice. My scalp still burns, hurts and itches. I've worn extensions before and NEVER had a reaction like this, so I'm guessing that maybe this was just a bad batch of hair?

Anyway, I have to start ALL OVER!!! My hair will be even shorter now than it was when I BC'd.

I'm sorry Tigerlily...

I was worried when I saw that you got them - only because I don't know much about them, but they sound pretty complicated.

Poor thing....

Your hair will snap back. Just take extra care of it. And do some ACV rinses for your little scalp....

I'm so sorry to hear that, I thought about getting tree braids myself but then I thought about how it would be after i washed my hair so I decided against it. I had a sew in weave once that i paid mad money for and I had to take it out after 2 weeks also, b/c my hair underneath smelled sour from not being able to dry completely (even thought I used a blow dryer) my scalp was full of flakes. It was a disaster.
Thank god that you got it out now and not when it locked into your hair. I dont think you should get it again, even if you got another brand.

oh no so sorry to hear this. did you get your hair done at a salon or by someone who does hair at home. maybe you should see a derm. hopefully it is not something serious like an infection of the scalp. 2 wks of itching/ burning sounds like torture. GET WELL SOON

My reg. beautician did it. I'm really thinking it was the hair. I've never had a reaction before. This was my first time wearing human hair. I usually wear kanekalon. That's the first and last time I try to be 'cute'. Oh well, back to cornrows and individuals.

Blast that devil hair!

ok, what is tree braids?
and my friend is allergic to synthtic hair as well, im thinking this is what happned to you...same symptoms...
sorry this happned to u...

asummertime - tree braids is when your hair is cornrowed and the extension is carried through the cornrow and pulled back out.

cutebajangirl - yes, I sent Jas an email. I'm hoping that maybe I can get a full/partial refund. Especially since I didn't use all of the hair.

Awww...sorry to hear this (((BIG HUG))) Dont be discouraged...I hope all goes well...try a tea rinse...Like chamomile tea..its good for soothing skin rashes...

Okay...I just washed my hair and my scalp feels a little better. At first, I couldn't stand for the water to touch my head. It's still sore and stings every now and then, but nothing like it was before.

I changed my mind about cutting my hair. It's only one section and I just can't bring myself to go from 9 inches to 4 0r 5 inches. The good thing is that the side of my head that got wacked grows longer and faster than the other so I'll just wait and try and let that side play catch up. I'll just wear an afro with a headband, that way, noone can tell that I've had a mishap!!

I feel better now!

I'm so sorry to hear this, TL. I'm glad you are feeling better and decided not to cut your hair right now. I'm sure some TLC with have you back on track in no time

I'm sorry to hear that. I went through the same thing when I got a bad sewn in weave years ago. I ended up cutting my hair but I grew back. Like you said, you plan to go back to cornrows, your hair will be back in no time. Also, you didn't need those braids girl, those fro's you were rockin were cute enough!I'm sorry to hear that. Oh I am so sorry to hear about this! I know how frustrated you must have been and you did try to keep it up as best as you could. I think you're right, you probably were allergic to the hair. If you ever wanted to try human hair again a suggestion is to wash it with shampoo before putting it in your hair and letting it air dry.

Anyway, continue to treat your hair with TLC and it will grow back in no time!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I think that some people have a bad reaction to the chemicals used to treat human hair when it's processed. I hope you're feeling much better now. There's nothing worse than an irritated scalp believe me, I know

Tigerlily,
The tree braids were gorgeous. Oh Well you will have another growth buddie I'm just starting out too...

Next day update....

My head still stings a little and itches some. It just doesn't feel right. Is there any type of oil I can put on my scalp? Someone mentioned a chamomile tea rinse, but I don't have any handy...TIA!

I would be careful in applying oils to your scalp right now. Can you schedule an appointment with a dermatologist? Until then, a cool misting spray of plain water might help to sooth your scalp and should be safe to use.

I am really sorry to hear about what happened. I have been contemplating getting tree braids (inspired by DSD) but now I am hesitant. I'm glad you didn't have to chop all your hair.

I sorry to hear about your hair / scalp. We are all thinking of you. I'm sure the hair that you lost will be back in no time at all.

ITA with what NGC said - perhaps go to see a dermatologist if your scalp is still sore?

Hello,
I am soooooo sorry to hear about this.
frown.gif
I unfortunately understand all too well.
angry2.gif
I have been transitioning since Sept of 2003, wearing braids (for the 1st time in my life) since late Jan 2004.

The first set of braids went well, considering that I did not know much about taking care of braids, until after joining this forum....and after 3 braiders, 6 hours, worring and adjusting--> (after a horrible detangling process somehow
spinning.gif
my hair survived..a little thin, but longer) All after wearing the braids for 3 1/2 months!!!

THIS TIME however, I went to a friend's hair braiders - 3 hour braids with 3 braiders (did not realize the time saved is because they don't braid all the way to the end of your hair).
nono.gif
Wore these braids for 2 months (Sprayed Surge religiously, used Shea butter for my scalp, even had them washed, sprayed a conditioner spray on daily if not 2x/ day...had massages to scalp and a friend put Pink Oil Moisturizer on them)......when getting them taken out --> only allowed them to use CO and Unbraid spray (got that from here) versus the shampooing and brushing them out that I experienced the 1st time. Results!!!!!--> MY HAIR IS HORRIBLE,
whyme.gif
WORST THAN BEFORE I GOT THE BRAIDS!!!! THIN, SEVERELY UNEVEN....SHORT IN THE CENTER BACK, 10 inches in one area, 4-6 on the opposite corresponding side, thin, dry, brittle.....a horrible mess. I was in tears I was so upset.
cry3.gif

I was looking forward to our local meeting, hoping to have some nice new growth and length to start my journal with since I was finally coming out of braids...... Now I just need help. I am going to the hairdresser tommorrow (Monday) for deepconditioning/texturizer.

Tigerlily, I will be your hairbuddy and we can dust ourselves off and start again. We can go from

You could not have known that the beautiful style that you wanted would cause so much trouble.

The worst part is that I don't understand why it looks soooooo much worse this time, they were larger, neater braids....and I put sooo much effort into it. I had the 1st set of braids prior to surgery for my dislocated shoulder (my dominant right arm) at the end of May....could surgery or rather the anesthesia and narcotics that were running intravenously for a week have done this?
hammer.gif

I might texturize Tigerlily, because I only have a range of motion up to 60 degrees right now....(I am eating and brushing my teeth, heck everything with my left hand)....so I need a little help with managing my hair...so if you will have my as your hair buddy ...we will march on together.
We can lament for a moment only,
violin.gif
-->
then start the parade up again
band2.gif

Last June I had beautiful hair, now I will have to have a Halle chop.....I HHATE IT!!!!!! and I just got started...what a bummer....

So at least now you know that you are not alone

PS - have you had an allergic reaction to anything else? Benadryl might help for the immediate itching....but I would definitely try a dermatologist.....
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers
