I washed my hair with some neutralizing shampoo and while the suds were white, when I rinsed my hair out the water was pink, so I washed it a couple more times and it kept turning the water pink, but still no pink lather on the hair so im thinking maybe the cause of the pink water was from the burns on my scalp....I'll keep yall posted on what happens

but my hair is very very very ROUGH right now!! How many more times should I do it???? I'm scared

I really dont know what to say, except maybe tryin a deep conditioner, I have never experienced water being pink and the lather being white, whte should signal all the perm is out!

How about you wash it UNTIL your lather rinses WHITE AND the water is CLEAR!!! THEN, leave the freakin' perms alone for a while. Water will NOT be pink from burns on your scalp. That is ludicrous! You REALLY need to research WHAT it is that you putting on your head BEFORE you put it on your head!!!

Now, let me go away and calm before I say something really ugly.

I am sorry to hear about what happened. I would say keep washing, and then I would put a nice deep conditioner on the hair and steam it. Because of your scalp, I would not sit under the dryer, but would put a towel under hot water, microwave it for a couple of minutes, put on a plastic shower cap, and then wrap the towel around that for about 15 mins. Do that twice (but feel your hair and see if it softens up). HTH. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Good luck CheerBear..hope everything turns out ok. As everyone else said, make sure U do a GOOD DEEP CONDITIONING.

Okay, now that I've calmed down some. Let me first say that I'm sorry that this happened to you. However, I REALLY do feel that you need to leave the perms alone for a while and LEARN YOUR HAIR!!! You seem to be having so many hair issues but very few solutions. I really think you need to becaome familiar with your hair and learn what works for your hair. Regardless of who does it, the care of it is YOUR responsiblity. You should KNOW what is going in your body and ON your head, know how it should work and when it's NOT working. Hopefully you will figure out what works for you before you go bald. I whis you the best.

I don't think you should leave perms alone.

Seeing white suds is a good sign, IMO

That means that there ISN'T any perm residue in your hair. Too much pooing can dry your hair out, so I agree with the other ladies, you should follow up with a deep moisturizing conditioner (with heat). I would neutralize again in two days to be on the safe side, even though relaxers stop acting 24 hours after application...
I hope everything works out okay .

Aren't you happy you have a place to come to when stuff like this happens, I know I am

No more washing today, pleazze.. The relaxing process already drys your hair out, alot of shampooing will only worsen the situation

Patience, first of all, the LATHER is white, it has been white and will be white no matter how much I continue to wash it,SECOND, do not tell me what I NEED to do, this has nothing to do with research or lack there of, it was just something that happened. Please keep your negative comments to yourself. Thank you

Woowoowooo...you'll be okay. Yeah, it happened to you. But, you have been having A LOT of hair drama lately. Much of which could have possibly been avoided. However, we disagree. You see them as negative comments, I don't. Either way, hope you get your hair straight (no pun intended.)

Ok, thank you to everyone who has responded. Excuse my negative aura in the above post. I am done with this board. Thanks to everyone who has helped me out along the way. Happy hair growing and health to you all. Take care

CheerBear, what do you mean
frown.gif
Please don't leave.. Im about to pm you

CheerBear, I'm really sorry to hear about the problems you are having with your hair. I went back through and looked at your posts for the past two months and you have really been having a tough road.
At this point my recommendation would be to take a break from hair: washing once a week or so, doing just the basics: hot oil, gentle shampoo, conditioner. Leaving your hair in cornrows (with just your own hair or human hair if you really want extensions), using a braid spray. Have a good look at your ends and if they need it, trim as much as you can stand.
I really think you should consider taking a mini-break from relaxing, 3 months to start. You posted earlier that your hair seemed to be thinner at the roots. That is not a good sign.
nono.gif

You may even decide to take a break from relaxing for longer. At one point I had very short hair from having NO CLUE what to do with it. I just kept it in braids and in a year I had a decent amount of hair again. Lots of people have also grown out their hair in braids for some months and then relaxed again with good result.
Your scalp also may not be able to handle lye relaxers. I never had a problem with burning with them when I or a friend did my hair (since we always applied 1/8 inch away from the scalp per directions) but with both of the professional stylists I have used, I could always feel the relaxer going right on my scalp (just one reason that I do my own relaxers now).
It seems you are taking a break from the board and that is probably a good thing. I think if you do basic hair maintenance and don't think about hair as much, you'll be in good shape in a few months.
Good luck.

Denali and Umsumayyah gave great advice. Please don't leave the board because of a disagreement with one person. We're not all going to agree, but if you want to leave so you're not obsessing over your hair for a while, perhaps it's a good idea.

I hope things turn out well with your hair. How often are you relaxing? Do you base your scalp well before hand?

Patience, perhaphs you were unable to read the recent thread concerning some of the past attitudes and behavior exhibited in communications between relaxed heads and naturals. This thread was very imformative and enlightening, maybe you could do a search for it. It was immediately evident that none of your comments were meant to assist your SISTER in any way. It is extremely inappropriate and inconsiderate to show such a blatant lack of support when a person is obviously in need of some positive suggestions to rectify whatever mishap. I'm not sure how you assessed that because Cheerbear expressed some concern about her relaxer outcome, that she is unfamiliar with her hair or her body. I viewed your album, and you seem to be a very sweet- looking person. However, you will note that as a result of your rude and inconsiderate comments/attitudes we have lost a member of our hair care family. It seem ironic that though we each strive to meet our individual hair goals; that you would take an opportunity to be helpful and supportive; and reply with insensitivity and negativity. I suggest you reevaluate your motivations and judgemental opinions and try to offer more helpful suggestions ( that is if ANYONE still wants to listen to you!).

These are my first two responses to this thread and you quoted my last response which was in response to CheerBear's post. I offered suggestions. However, I have no control over how a person's receives them. If she chooses to leave the board because of ANYONE'S comments, including mine, then maybe she just needs to take a break. It really is not THAT serious.

Either way, I hope she nurses her hair back to health and takes care of herself.

Your posting style can be very harsh, Patience. There have been a few posts I can think of (not always even relating to relaxers) in which I know that I would not have liked to be on the receiving end of your words. You can have a perfectly good message, but it gets lost in the delivery.

Patience, you really have to start living up to your name. sometimes you do and sometimes you dont.....i mean there really is no reason to express intolerance or impatience about what anybody here is doing with their hair.....just simply because it is THEIR HAIR....you may be frustrated with what a relaxer can do (just a guess as to why you responded that way) ....but once its done its done...that person then needs help and advice and support , not scolding.

anyway , with that said CheerBear, the relaxer you used (i think it was you that said you used Revlon), is the same exact relaxer my hair dresser always used on me...i always felt it was too strong...and i ALWAYS had burns and it always killed my scalp. and i always had damage...but according to him it was the best type of relaxer (this was years and years ago)....so when i decided to take mattters into my own hands and i bought no lye relaxers with me for him to use...i no longer got burns, but i did still have damage.

i would say, if you washed it that many times...the relaxer is out. now just nurse your scalp and hair and moisturize ALOT!!! dont ever use that kind of relaxer again....its really harsh. i feel your pain, i always had scabs on my scalp from that relaxer...it burned really bad. along with what patience said.....i wont tell you , you need to leave the relaxers alone....but i would ask if your willing to consider it??? if not , then defintely do not use that same one again...it will only do the same thing again....i think after all that washing you can be sure its out, and it just might be the pink is coming from the sores. maybe there is still some relaxer on them.....but i think you have done what you can, now just get your scalp healed...

I really really hope your not leaving....you need to be here

I love this board! Go ladies!

CheerBear, I hope that you will not let the negative comments of one person steer you off the course of healthy hair and the support/knowledge that the board can provide. The beauty of us sharing our experiences is that we can learn from each other. So while you may be having a hard time now, trust that you are not the only one and that someone is learning from your experiences. I am truly sorry for what you have been experiencing. You are not the only one who has ever had a mishap (relaxed or not). Take courage, girl and keep ya head up!
smile.gif

Cheerbear dont leave, I am a newbie here too (sort of hehe) and I have picked up how some people can be harsh, and I will agree that Patience' comments were insensitive and uncalled for. We are going to agree and disagree at times, but members who have harsh comments, and negative attitudes make you not want to return or even post stuff for that matter. I showed a friend of mine (who is also a member of the board), Patience' 1st reply, and she was like what the hell is her problem? I mean you literally had to leave the post because U got frustrated like she did something to you personally.

We have to realize that others cannot interpret how we are writing, so we have to choose our words carefully.

I will send a PM to Cheerbear also because I would hate to know she is feeling like
censored.gif
now because of someone's rude and insensitive behavior.

I'm really concerned about your scalp. If the water is pink, could your scalp be bleeding in places you haven't seen yet? That's the only reason I can think of if you've neutralized plenty of times. I don't want to scare you, but this could be a possibility. You could have open sores. Please get some neosporin or other healing treatments and use this on your scalp. If the situation doesn't improve, please see a doctor.

I hope this gets resolved for you. Let us know if anything improves.

Also... have someone check your scalp to see how bad the burns are, especially in places you can't see.

Hope this helps,
Bobbie

If I had this happening to me, I would definitely stick to deep conditioning...no heat, no braids...nothing that would disturb the scalp. Find a low maintenance(very lose ponytail). And do not relax again for at least 6 months. Give your hair(and yourself) a break. I did that 3 years ago...(except the 6 months break from the relaxer ended up being 2 years). I was so upset and depressed about my hair and my scalp's condition! So when I felt the thick healthy roots come in I wanted to go longer without a realxer. I felt so much better because my hair came back.
Once it gets healthy again...then try relaxing...but only after you get it under control. Trying to fix it now will only make it worse. Take a deep breath and start over...one thing at a time...

Looking at your posts, maybe it would've been better if you calmed down FIRST before posting anything at all.

CheerBear, be encouraged. We all go through hard times with our hair...that's why I had to cut most of mine off and start over back in February...but I assure you that you will come out on top! Just believe in your own ability and sincerely love your hair...that's what I learned to do. I promise it will love you back.
