I wash weekly with a moisturizing shampoo or ORS Creamy Aloe shampoo. Then I DC with a protein conditioner (with heat), Aphogee 2 Minute Keratin Treatment or Nexxus Eergencee and follow up with a moisturizing conditioner (usually without heat). I rinse out the conditioner and then add leave in- Aphogee Pro-Vitamin leave in and AG Fast Food or Salerm 21. Recently I've been usuing HE LTR leave in instead because I wanted to focus on splits. If I am in the mood I seal with castor oil, coconut oil, or glycerin.
My hair has been breaking off for the last few months, so I've been trying to incorporate more protein into my regimen.
Were you using these same products and then noticed the splits or are you using these products as a result of the splits?

I'm using these products because of the splits.
What were you using before this that may have caused the splits?
I'm asking because I want to see if we've used any of the same products.
Bacially the same products, but I only used a heavy protein 1-2 weeks before and after a relaxer. I was slacking on using lighter proteins in between those times.
MegaTek, Ovation?
That's what I think may have caused my splits.

what relaxers are y'all using? what about your daily products? what about your conditioning treatments-- how often are you conditioning and with what?
i had the same problem and i found that it was a combination of two things.
for one, i was not maintaining the proper moisture-protein balance, as i was not moisturizing my hair with the right things. my daily moisturizer was giovanni direct, which was great at first but over time, it was protein overkill to put that on my hair everyday. i would then go crazy deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner, still not quite getting that balance right. before you try a protein product in an effort to fix splits, first, trim/dust/cut those splits off (no sense in holding on to them), then once you've gotten that fresh slate, up your moisture game. once your hair feels good and you think you have attained that moisture-protein balance, maintain it w/weekly dc treatments that also contain a balance of moisture and protein and apply a daily moisturizer that doesn't contain much protein at all. at least that is what worked for me. it may not work for you, especially if you are a lady whose hair actually loves lots of protein
now as for the second thing-- i am still trying to figure out the reasons behind it but one thing i know for sure is that texlaxing with no lye relaxers just doesn't agree with my hair. i haven't quite figured out the anatomy of this yet but when i was younger and relaxing bone straight with a no lye relaxer, my hair was ok-- fine and a little thin but no crazy splits in the middle of the strand. when i switched to texlaxing, my hair looked thicker but i suspect that the combination of my hair being very porous, the fact that it is generally harder to keep kinky/curly hair moisturized as compared to straight hair and the calcium hydroxide from no lye relaxers coating my strands making them even harder to moisturize, just made everything worse. i was always battling dryness no matter what i did. it was as though each strand was either on the verge of exploding or actually did explode with tree splits in the middle of the strand.
long story short-- now that i am relaxing a little straighter with a lye relaxer and using a daily moisturizing product that hardly contains protein, i see a big difference.

Your first paragraph perfectly describes my situation. I am currently textlaxing with a no lye relaxer as well, however, the split that I saw was on relaxed hair.
What moisturizer(s) do you use?
