Hair Update Spring 2012: Natural Rollerset & Flatiron Pics

After struggling with my hair over the past year, I'd have to say I'm happy with my progress. I'm terrible at judging the length of my own hair but I would probably say I'm around MBL/grazing WL. I should be WL by summer hopefully, but I've been saying that for the past two years . I really want to be WHIP length by December. This spring will be 6 years since I BCed the back of my hair, and 5 years completely natural. Without further ado:

BTW, my hair is even but when I took it down from the wrap, one side was flipped up :wacky:. I also forgot to mention I flat-ironed with Crisco, the kind you fry chicken with- my hair is soooo soft. I think it's a keeper :yep:

The red highlights are from the henna I did back in October

This is beautiful. Please could you describe how you rollerset? Size of rollers, technique? TIA.

Sure, I have a picture tutorial
Here's my normal routine:

Wash with Joico K-Pak Shampoo
-DC 2-3 hours (w/out heat) or 1 hour w/heat. I usually mix moisture and protein conditions for balance. Ex, Aussie 3 minute DC (for slip), Joico Moisture recovery (deep hydration), and Joico K-Pak Reconstructor (protein). Lately I've been using Nairobi products
-After washing, I'll apply a dollop of leave-in (i.e. Cantu Shea butter), Lacio Lacio, and Chi Silk Infusion throughout my hair just to help it hold moisture

* When I plan on following with the flatiron, I just use the Cantu and very very diluted setting lotion.

Tips:
-Keep hair very wet. Since my hair natural hair is very thready and spongy...it's not uncommon for me to have to spritz my hair a lot per section.

-Do NOT try to do a rollerset when you're tired- I promise you'll end up saying "Fcuk It" :nono:

-It is also easier to roll the perimeter sections (near the nape, sides, and front) going downwards, towards your skin, if that makes sense.

I have a tutorial of the actual rollerset process and placement in my album:

Also here's a modified version of roller placement from the front: http://public.fotki.com/kblc06/new-h...for-fin/2.html

Thanks for sharing your rollerset process. Yours are always perfect.

And your straight pics... My goodness! How do you maintain your ends?

Well to be honest, I'm scissor happy :spinning:. But also PS or do low manipulation styles quite frequently as well (during the fall and winter I stay in wigs)

kblc06 Hey have you stopped using the vaseline on your ends? I remember a year ago or maybe it was longer that you were using that technique to maintain the health of your ends. OR maybe I am confusing you with someone else.

Your hair looks lovely!!!! I am seriously cursing myself because I remember one time you and I had the same length of hair.

But anyways, I always look forward to your updates :)

Very nice rollerset! I saw you hair album. I am just starting my transition and when I saw your texture shot I thought I was looking at my hair! Mine is same way on the sides and top!! I am seeing my top ng is like 3 inches and sides maybe 1 1/2 inch. My hair is also like the sides on my nape. Have you found any gels or products that make these two textures blend better? TIA

Your hair is very pretty. I am an avid rollersetter too :D but my results are no where as pretty..
