Has LHCF made anyone consider cosmetology?

Most of us on here love anything dealing with hair. I was reading a post yesterday with infamous quotes from "bad stylists" and I started thinking....if there was a stylist who was knowledgeable about healthy hair practices, listened to clients, and was not scissor happy, that stylist could make a lot of $$ and have a large client base.

Many ladies(and gentlemen) on this board know more about healthy hair care than most stylist do. So I'm wondering if since joining LHCF has anyone decided (or considered) a cosmetology license?

I always wanted to do hair since I was younger...my grandmother still does hair! It's in my blood

However, I never went back to complete school and I'm honestly glad that I didn't at the time. I know sooooo much more now about hair then I did back in 2001 when I originally wanted to complete the program.

There is so much knowledge on hair boards it's ridiculous. It's a goldmine of information and I'm shocked that more stylists aren't soaking up all this knowlege and using it to help their clients & improve their customer service.

Since I'm going to go back into cosmetology and get my license I plan on using the horror stories here as a way to avoid having problems with my clients and ensure that they get the services that they specifically ask for

Yep...I already do a few people's hair, and my fiance is constantly joking about getting me a salon chair and a shampoo sink, LOL.

Yes, If the economy was not so bad, I would take a chance and go to school. I think I will when the job market picks up. The beauty shops seem to suffer when the economy is down.

I actually completed my 1500 hours back in 89 and never went to state board and I wish I would have now. Oh well.

I contemplate it all the time! I just wish I could take the test without having to pay that expensive school tuition because I know many of us here probably know more about true hair care than some of the licenced folks.

Tell me that is NOT your starting picture in 07! Now that's inspiration!

Yeah, girl! I'll admit it makes me want to spread the word and help people! I was in Sally's today and a woman asked me how she could make her hair curly. My Mom stepped aside, and I started giving her ideas on roller sets and whatnot. I realized that I actually knew what I was talking about!

YES!! I actually just went on a tour of one of the beauty schools today! That ish is expensive tho.. & before I can enroll, I gotta figure out te money issue, work, and who is going to take care of my son. But yes, beauty has just recently became a passion of mine since deciding to go natural! I'm excited!

Wow!!! It's funny you should mention this. I was just doing a search of cosmetology schools in my area. I am currently a nurse and my sister has a salon in another state and I was talking to her about that today. I am very interested but it would be a big change for me after all these years.

I started in '07 and a month later quit cause of a difficult pregnancy. I am going back in the fall. All I think about in my free time is hair anyway so why not LOL

From nursing to doing hair would be a big change, but sometimes change is good. How long would beauty school be?

I have always wanted to be in the beauty industry, namely hair. But they don't have a 401k and what not so I becme an engineering designer. Still want to though

I would love to do it as a side hustle during college but not a life long thing, but can you get in trouble for not having a license?

I mean like, working out of my house and have friends and family advertise for me.

I have also had this in the back of my mind, since I love beauty and hair so much. However, I have back problems which helped me decide not to pursue this career.

I just registered for class yesterday! I start in July part-time, this way I can still keep my day job and my weekends. I got great financial aid as well... I can't wait!! And yes, my previously natural journey, return to relaxed and LHCF totally gave me the confidence I needed. I'll probably blog about it once I get started.

Does anyone have a recommendations on reading material to keep me occupied until July? Aside from combing the LHCF archives of course...

Never. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my hair and doing a million different things to it. But that passion doesn't cross over to actually caring for other people's heads.

Yes, you can get in trouble, but it depends on the location and the state board rules for that location. I think in mine location, they may be making hair braiders become lic., but I'm not sure.

Actually when I was a little girl I u sed to dream of beaing a beautician. That's what they were called back then but I remember my teacher in 2nd grade telling me that I should go to college when I told her that. any how I love my current profession but I've been strongly thinking about doing it in the summer or when I retire.
