I notice that alot of stretchers and transitioners put their hair in a bun after washing or cowashing, while it is still wet.

How do you get it in a bun without breakage? I am almost 4 months post with a lot of new growth, I cowashed today and when I got out of the shower I tried to detangle my hair in two sections, then put it in a bun, but it is never smooth. And I know it is still tangled because when I tried to smooth it with my denman I saw alot of breakage.

just an f.y.i. I cowashed with kenra moisturizing condish, then used garnier fructris leave-in and avocado oil afterwards.

How can I prevent this? Sorry if this is a repost, but I could not find what I was looking for when I searched.

Thanks in advance.

1st thing to do is to detangle while in the shower, under running water while you still have conditioner in your hair. I use my shower comb then smooth w/my denman before I even get out, twist into a loose bun to keep it off my shoulders, then dry off. While hair is still very wet, I apply my leave in and oil, use a boar bristle brush and aloe vera gel or JBCO on my edges only then smooth back into a bun or ponytail. I usually only wrap the ponytail holder around once, maybe twice so it's not too tight. I put a scarf on for a few minutes afterward. This cuts down on breakage and I always get smooth results.

I agree with Eisani~

I detangle in the shower with conditioner in. Towel my ends for drips then put more conditioner on my ends for moisture, smooth back with boar bristle brush and bun.

Ditto... lots of water and moisture... and not too tight
I just use Jilbere shower comb, hands, and scarf... no brushes

I don't have any advice because I have never been able to wet bun without breakage -- so after many many unsuccessful attempts using all kinds of techniquies, I just stopped because lost too much hair. I allow my hair to hang dry at least 80% percent before I attempt to bun or do any kind of styles. My strands are very very fine.

Taking notes to see if worth trying again . . l.

i noticed I got allot of breakage when detangling in the shower... I find when I cleanse or cowash my hair then immediately apply the leave in co and oil my hair is so easy to detangle, as I have hard water the shower thing is a no no for me.

Yep, I tried the "detanging under water/shower thing" for a minute and again, lost waaay too much hair so I stopped that too. I got the soft water treatment and all that, so my issues was not because of hard water. This one was really scary for me cuz I lost soooo much hair THAT I COULD SEE in the shower and in my comb, and Lord knows what I didn't see going down the drain . . .

My hair detangles best when it has leave-ins/oils/etc. and is almost dry -- comb glides thur like butter with minimum hair loss . . .

I will try detangling in the shower first if it feel like it is not going well I will try to just put a lot of leave in and my oil and let it dry- then attempt to bun.

Thank you for all the advice ladies, I really do appreciate it!
