without rubber bands? I want to get cornrows but I know that putting rubber bands on the ends will cause your ends to split, so what other ways are there to secure the ends?

I usually do my cornrows while my hair is wet and when I get to the ends I just use some cocnut butter and they dry like that.

I saw a post somewhere recommending cutting a chenelle (sp?)pipe cleaner into small pieces and securing the ends with it. They come in many different colors at craft places like Michael's, are inexpensive and supposed to be safe on hair.
