How does the relaxer brand affect your ability to stretch?

I've seen posts where people say they are able to stretch longer when they use a certain brand of relaxer. I'm wondering how is that possible? I am currently experiencing this myself since I switched to ORS no-lye. I am now 8 weeks post and thinking I may be able to make it to 10 weeks. I've never made it past 6 weeks before. Now, I have also changed some of the products in my regimen, but still I'm wondering how/if the relaxer has anything to do with it.

Please share your thoughts.

Thx!

I don't know about the other ladies, but I know that for me, I am able to stretch longer with ORS relaxer. I was using Optimum before and I had to touch up much sooner. I am texlaxed but my current relaxer keeps my new growth much softer and manageable. Optimum made my new growth dry and hard which caused me to need more frequent touch ups. So I am thinking that the brand of relaxer has something to do with it because some are more "drying" than others.

I'm not sure either but I know I wasn't able to stretch to the 12-16 week point until I switched to Phyto - so I'm thinking the relaxer is a factor as well.

Thanks for responding ladies. It looks like the relaxer does make a difference. Bumping for more replies...

So I'm still wondering, how does the relaxer affect future new growth? Especially if you base your scalp before applying, then it's not like the relaxer is seeping into the hair follicle, right? Can anyone answer this question?

I cannot answer your question above but, my experience for the past 1.5 years using Phyto is, it allows me to stretch my relaxer anywhere from 4-6 months. Prior to phyto (affirm) I had to relax every 8 weeks. I used elucence lye relaxer recently and at 6 weeks, I was struggling not to relax. I had to relax 2 months later.

Based on my experience, I can only say that when I use lye relaxers, I guess the relaxer makes my hair weaker than normal so when the new growth comes in, the lye relaxed part is weak so it's difficult to stretch. Phyto relaxer does not break down the bonds too much so relaxed part is not weak which allow me to stretch. The bottom line is, the NG is thicker and stronger than the relaxed ends so if the relaxed part is too weak, it's harder to handle the two texture. If the relaxed part is left strong, then it's easier to stretch. (I am going round and round but I hope it make sense).
