Hey ladies!

I saw this on the "Long Hair Community" and was wondering if there was a thread here about this already.

Put your hair in a snug ponytail and measure the circumference around the base.

Mine measured 3.5 inches! More than I hoped!

Over at the LHC averages ranged from 2 inches to 5 inches!

:lick:

hey, if that's as tight as you can get it, I don't see why that wouldn't qualify :-)

I tried but my hair was in the way unless I PUUUUUULLED it...I don't like to put a lot of stress on my hair so I really only put the scruncii on to hold the hair together. My siggy pic is my ponytail.

Your hair is gorg!

When I came up with the 1-5 inch system, I just based it on what the LHC did but most of their members are 2b or less I'm pretty sure so it's not surprising the texture would account for some difference.

mine is 6''...the front of my hair is pinned up and i didnt take it out because its not long enough to have a significant impact on thickness...but i lust for the super pony so 6'' isnt big enough for me

Don't the curls add a bunch of thickness though? Has anyone tried measuring the hair natural and then straight? How was the variation?

Mine is 4 inches when wet or straight but I don't have a lot of curl (3b). I usually damp bun so it's flatter than my natural curls. I'll try to measure with curls someday.

Lots of our numbers will be higher because our hair is kinky and curly. The difference between the circumference of my puff and my straightened hair ponytail is like 4 or 5" :lachen: . I can't remember exactly, but I think my straight hair circumference is like 3.5, 3.75".

Yea it would be smaller when straight definitely, my natural hair is WAY bigger. But I rarely straighten my hair so I don't know what it is...it's still thick but def not 9". And thank you Polyesterdiva!

Ugh..not thick enough..I measured 3 inches, but looking at my pony does not give me life :perplexed (in terms of its thickness). But let me still say, I am very proud of my hair (positive re-enforcement...please work in my favor )

ETA: Here is a pic...loving the shine btw.

Ponytail? Ponytail? What's that?? :look::lol:

I have so much shrinkage, I can't imagine ever having a real ponytail :ohwell: I'll be back when I get there....lol

When my hair is straight its 3.5 if it was curly it was 8-9 in.

Imo this isnt accurate is you hair isnt straight and compacted. That way you are measuring only hair not air and the bends in the hair

Of course it's accurate...if you wear your hair curly 99% of the time...your ponytail thickness is what it is in its curly state...that's why you pull the measurer taut (to minimize error with air/bends and to compact the hair).

I haven't measured but I know my ponytail is significantly thicker when curly than straight. Probably not important to the LHC ladies since most of them have <2 hair

well if you are going to compare it to the standard 2-5 inches its not accurate because it wasnt measured in a similar state. Im pretty sure the number would be different if the hair was straightened vs in a kinky/curly state becuase no matter how tight you make the ponytail it will not fully compact like looser curled and straight hair.
your hair could measure 8 in a wng but 6 in in a twistout and 4 in straight.the variablity in the amount measured to how strecthed the hair is is what i think would cause inaccuracy.

It may not really matter to you or anyone else who wears their curls exclusivley, but i just hope when people see inflated numbers due to the hair being measured in a kinky state they dont go "oh wow my hair is really thin :("

I do agree with this^ and think that people should definitely say whether their hair was curly or straight when measured.

I just happened to have a tape measure to the left & some time on my hands~ LOL!

My pony is about 5 inches around straightened.

I only ask because I think the classification of i/ii/iii is made for straight/wavy hair that can compact a lot.

I think your hair has to be straightened or at least banded/stretched taut for measurement to be accurate. Or else your not really measuring the thickness of your ponytail but the volume. I don't think puffs should count.

My hair was rollersetted this week and the thickness of my ponytail is 4 inches around. I'd think it might be closer to 6 inches if it was in its curly state.

5 inches around.
