4 years ago I transitioned unintentionally. I decided not to relax while preg so I wore wigs. I had NO idea what I was doing or getting into.

I purchased a lacefront and proceeded to hide my hair only coming out every two weeks to shampoo. I didn't really have a plan at the time. For 2 years I didn't condition or moisturize my hair. - didn't know any better at the time :(

I guess I planned on relaxing again but I had a change of plans. I decided not to return to my 9 to 5 (after maternity) and without a nice paycheck I needed to cut back on expences.

The summer of 2008 I decided to come out from under the lace front and see what was growing. I thought I was ready, but I guess I wasn't. Twists got old and I started pressing, blow drying and bkt'ing my hair into heat damage the summer of 2009.

I ended up going to synthetic wigs sept 09 till now. Last night I chopped the remaining straight ends from my hair. I went from about 12 inches to 3-4 inches stretched.

It's been 12 hours now since I cut conditioned and put in finger twists. I still don't know if I like it. My hair is in much better condition than when I BC'd in 2008 but I just don't know of I have the right face shape to pull it off. I feel like my head is HUGE. My nape/kitchen looks a mess the sides/temples are slim and undefined.

Can you give me your honest opinion? Should I rock it, separate the twists, put it back under a wig till I get more length?, try flat twists again?? wear headbands, texlax? Any other products I should try?

Also, will my texture be different this time since I haven't neglected it?
the first transition it stayed dry and undefiend since I neglected it. It feels better than I remember but i'm not sure if that is only temporary, or due to the fact I learned a BIT more about products and conditioning.

I still have to take a texture picture but I forgot last night.

Last night I used equal parts afro detangler, WEN fig, yes to carrots and care free curl activator.

thanks!

If you feel comfortable, rock them! If not, it will show on your face:perplexed
I think they look nice!

What is headband texlaxing?

I'd rock it! Btw, the best accessory you could ever have in life is confidence. :)

CONGRATS!!!!

I think you should separate the finger curl thingys and rock it as a curly fluffy fro, maybe with a headband or scarf as a headband.

I think you should also try some 2 strand twists, flat twists, braids etc... EXPERIMENT!!!

You can always hide your hair, why not at least see what it can do at this length first?! PLAY with it and have fun.

Congrats again on your BC!

Oh and as for headband texlaxing, my suggestion is DONT!

Be natural for a bit and see how you love it. On days you feel unsatisfied, pop a wig on. But I have a feeling you're going to love it.

I was listing options, wear a head band or texlax.

thanks! I guess I'm just looking for feedback before I decide on my comfort level. So far I think I like the hair but just not sure I have the face/head to pull it off.

Looks good to me! Check out Youtube. There are plenty of ladies on there documenting their journeys from BC!

I was thinking I might like the look if I separate the twists but wouldn't that leave my ends more exposed and prone to extra dryness?

thanks!

Your head is fine and your hair looks great. You just need to play around with your hair, with headbands, scarves, various hairstyles, makeup, jewelry, etc. Just be determined to make it work and you'll be okay.

HAHAA!!!

Headband Texlaxing!!!

I thought you meant texlaxing the perimeter of your hair, edges/sides/nape like a headband. The way some people only touch up their edges ya know.

LMAO

Well yes it would expose your ends, but you can always put on a moisturizer, I kinda feel like you should see what it looks like, so you can see what styles you're happy rockin' or not. Now is the time for experimenting with styles as well as techniques. good luck girl!

Looks great! Invest in a jar of Ecostyler and a scarf to tame those edges and nape. It's what I use!

Congrats! Like everyone's said enjoy your hair, experiment, and no your head is not big!
People (esp my family) said my head was too big before I cut my BC and they were WRONG.

And it looks like you have a lot of length to do different things like rock it curly or twist it. Have fun with it, and like Miryoku said, "the best accessory you could ever have in life is confidence."

lwilliams1922, you are less than a day in. You are used to seeing your face one way and your mind hasn't adjusted to your new hair being you yet. I think once you get used you'll like it. It looks really healthy and may be easier to take care of this time around.

My thoughts exactly! Have fun with it. I bet you will be in love with it by next week girl.

Your hair is so pretty! It looks very silky. I agree with the other ladies. :)

your hair looks fine on you. it'll be back at its former length in no time. ♥

Congrats on your BC. Check out some youtube vids on styling twa's and just start having fun with it. Start out simple like a puff, then add a headband later.Throw in some two strand twists. Check out KinlyCurlyCoil, she has some really nice hair styles you could try. Give yourself a chance to get used to your hair. Your head size is fine BTW.

Your texture looks pretty "silky" as others have said - which means that you'll probably have an easier time retaining moisture than a Type 4+.

I don't see any reason why you'd have/want to texlax, but the choice is your own. Your hair will DEFINITELY be different this time around with all the TLC you're giving it. I've transitioned twice, and the first time I never really got to know my hair or texture and it showed. :perplexed

There are so many resources online now for learning about all textures and one of the best ones is right here -- LHCF!! I'm a visual learner, so I love youtube also. Take your time, listen to your tresses, and love every minute of it! It can be a lot of fun if you let it. :yep: HHJ!

i wish i had your length. i cant do any styles. your head is not big btw. i love your hair!

I like it! Like all the other ladies suggested, play with it and see what styles look good on you. Give it some time before you just write it off. I think you look bold and great!

I am soooooo glad I posted this question today! I was probably leaning towards wigging it up for 6 -12 months. Of course I would NOT have been happy because I just came out of 8 months of wigging. Wigs in the summer heat is not fun. :(

After talking to you ladies I decided I would embrace my BC. It's very healthy and shedding is down to almost NOTHING. The length is gone but with the twists I can shake it and feel movement. It takes a BC to really understand what it is to hurry up and WAIT.

I did put on a loose scarf that covers about 3 inches right above my forehead. It was cute so I decided I would get some more. The hair store where I got it (around $6 or so) was closed so I went to try a fabric store. I picked out 11 or 12 pieces (non cotton) material and purchased a 1/4 yard of each. I am in scarf heaven. I am so excited to try them out!

I was so happy I took a picture on the counter at the store! There was a big holiday sale and each one averaged about $1! I loved one of the pieces and purchased extra to ask my mom to make me a matching tank top to go with it.

thanks ladies for the support and suggestions!

I guess I need to keep things in perspective. I was feeling pretty down about BCing twice.

Soliel185 --- Your hair is LOVELY!

I don't see anything wrong with your head and your hair is pretty. I also think you should just experiment with different styles. You're just not used to looking at it yet. Hang in there a few days and I bet you'll like it.

I agree with Whimsy- your finger curls are cute.. you should seperate them and rock a curly fro or an afro-hawk. It takes time to learn which styles will work with short natural hair and the only way to do that is by trial and error:yep:
Hang in there! you are definitely NOT alone.

Congratulations!! I would look at the 2009 and 2010 new naturals threads. You'll learn alot from styles to products that will work for you
